His name is Wily Robo Iron Golem. Yes, it's a mouth full.

Let me explain:

Though I'm part of tradition, in a succession of ancestry, I'm talking of course about the Wily Machines.
I am considered of another world, and quite different from the rest. He's from the Mega Man "World" Gameboy sub series, and isn't from the main series. Some differences include looking like Wily, being the tallest of many of Wily's previous creations, having a longer name that isn't simply "Wily Machine", etc.
In my family, I am the second youngest, resemble the oldest,
but my size is what really sets me apart from everyone. Of the 5 Gameboy games, W.R.I.G. is the last boss of the second last of the games. He looks much like the last boss of the first Gameboy game in Wily's Revenge. Observe:



Also, he is the tallest of pretty much every Wily Machine, so his size really sets him apart.

Being almost the living incarnation of him, I have my master on the brain, He looks just like Wily, and Wily's Saucer, which is the third phase of the battle, is literally stationed where his brain should be, where Wily controls it from.
and only when my heart is broken, will we fight face to face. His first form you face off against is his body, where you must damage his weak spot on his chest, hence his heart while his two arms attack you. After you've defeated this form, he lowers himself to begin the second phase, which is against his face.
I tend to get an appetite during our struggle, even if it means eating you, He actually tries to suck you in with his mouth!
but please don't feed me hot foods, as they make me kind of sick. His weakness is the Ballade Cracker, which causes explosions on impact! That's a spicy-meat-a-ball!

Since my other guess is kind of void, my real guess would have to be the instant-death beams/lasers in Quickman's level.

Other examples of the same gimmick can be found in Turbo Man's stage, MMX5 Sigma Stage 1, and in Quickman.EXE's Stage in Network Transmission.

If you're referring to the vertical section at the beginning of Gate Stage 1 where you must climb up while avoiding the spikes on the walls, I'd say if anything, the Shadow Armor is a must have! That or if you have the Jumper Part...

Yeah I don't recall any trouble maneuvering through Gate's fortress with the Shadow Armor. Its using the other armors in there that make me want to scream. Stupid twin cell boss and spike hell chambers.

I remember in one of the X games there's a place where you have to get a pickup or powerup but you end up sacrificing yourself to the spikes lining the floors and wall. There's no escaping that one since you can't turn around and go back. I just don't remember the level or game... might've been in X2.

I think you might be referring to Overdrive Ostrich's Heart Tank. It's near the end of the stage inside the Base, on a row of spikes that continue up the far wall, where the Heart Tank rests with a bunch of items (health, energy) aligned in front of it.

Most people just use a fully charged Speed Burner and sacrifice themselves to get it, but the other alternative, which can keep you from dying, is to legitimately drive the Ride Chaser all the way from the middle of the desert section, make the jump off the ramp over the bottomless pit, ride straight into the Base while holding Dash to go faster, drive right over the spikes unharmed, and turn around on the Bike slightly before you gain the Heart and voila, no death for you with one more Heart to call your own.

X2 has a lot of different methods for gaining the power up items, which is quite awesome. Like using the Strike Chain to get to the Arm Capsule, without the need for the Air-Dash Boots, or getting hit deliberately by the missiles as far as they can reach by the enemy in front of the Heart Tank in Wheel Gator's Stage, giving you just enough time to climb up the wall of spikes and snag the Heart Tank before the invincibility wears off.
