My computer is a dual-core unit, with a total of 640 GB of of space between the two hard drives. Here is the requisite information on it:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9174458&type=product&id=1218044490195

Now, my two hard drives are labeled ACER and DATA respectively, and from my experience, you shouldn't mess around with anything labeled "DATA". But, this drive has over 200 GB of space on it, which leaves me confused. Is it possible for me to store files into this DATA drive without screwing up my machine, or what?

My hardrive contains some of the similar aspects as yours, having two drives. I have a hardrive of 80 GB and a hardrive of 500 GB. (Guess which one's the primarily used one.)

As far as I know, I was able to transfer some files from the 80 GB drive into my much bigger one. I didn't seem to have any problems. My 500 GB drive is HP, and my other one is emachines. I have about 13 GB worth of space on the 80 GB, so it's not like I really need it , per say.

You say you've had a bad experience with DATA drives. Do you mean exactly that, or did you just hear you shouldn't mess with DATA drives? I've actually never heard of any DATA brand before.

But I'm guessing the ACER drive is the one you use mostly. In any case, I'm sure you can click and drag items into the other drive from the My Computer menu, where it should list all of your Computer's drives. Just make sure you know where to find what you move on to your other drive; make a shortcut, depending on the file(s).

I haven't had bad experiences with stuff labeled that, its just that I've just been taught that folders and such listed as DATA or something similar shouldn't be messed around with or modified.

ACER's the one I mainly use; its got all of the normal stuff in it, including Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows. The drives themselves have an equal amount of total space on them, and there are a number of files in DATA already, but I just don't know if its safe to add other things to it. I have a heavily modified Morrowind game on the ACER drive already, and it takes up a LOT of space as it is. I'll run out eventually so I need to start moving stuff now.

I wouldn't worry too much about the drive being called DATA: that's probably the default factory name, and it was chosen as being generic. If the drive was meant to be used for system components only, it'd be hidden from normal view.

My own laptop is configured like that: I've got a 80 GB drive, but 10 GB is hidden as a virtual drive with backups allowing me to restore my machine to it's factory settings if I need to. I've never seen that 10 GB directly, since it's hidden, so I can't move files from or to it.

That was the case for my old computer, too. It wasn't hidden but it said its purpose was for system backups.

Well, I've moved some things into the DATA drive, and nothing terrible has happened yet, so I guess I was worried about nothing. This can be locked now.
