Could it be Flaahgra, the boss of the Chozo Ruins?
He's comprised of many, and he gives you the Varia Suit after beating him, which lets you access Magmoor Caverns unscathed, hence "wanting to heat things up".
A nice guess, and it fits well too, but Flaahgra is not who I have in mind!

CARETAKER CLASS DRONE- it is on entity, but has many parts, sanctuary temple was quite a land of waste, it overheats at the battle's end,and you hit a glowing red part to damage it. It leads to the screwupattack. That, or QUAdraxis, for the same above reasons, except if you go to the great temple after it, you get the light suit.
Fun guesses... but no! Personally, I wouldn't call the Sanctuary Temple a wastleland. It looks more like an abandonned metropolis.
