This was added in the newest patch. The head of the TF2 team is being really vague about it- stating "who and who doesn't hear these in-game right now is important- no one has guessed correctly so far." News should be coming up soon in another (Christmas?) update within the next couple of weeks.


EDIT: Apparently these new voices can only be heard by Demoman and Soldier. They replace the default voices 10% of the time, but only as those two classes.

I smell a class update!


EDIT: Up until 20 minutes ago Robin Walker had 3 "undefined" weapons for Demoman and Soldier equipped. There's no way to deny it now- a class update for Demoman and Soldier is definately on it's way.

Doc, you lucky dog, getting your favorite class updated so soon after joining the community. I had to wait forever for my Spy update (not that I use any of the new weapons anyway...) :V

Every day this week, the update pages will update for each class, revealing weapons, achievements, etc.

But here's the twist: During this week, Valve will keep tally of Demomen killed as Soldier and vice versa. Whoever gets the most kills gets ANOTHER weapon on top of their planned three. This should be fun~

I'll be playing as Soldier, down with the cyclops!

Neat update, even before the unlocks. If you play as Demo or Soldier, you get an in-game kill counter that displays your war effort, and the splash screen is now the soldier and demo butting heads.

EDIT: End of day 1: 61 one-eyes maggots blown to smithereens.

Here's his first two weapons.

The sword drops your max health, but each time you land a kill you get some health and speed (caps at 4 kills)

It cannot crit unless paired with his second weapon's special ability:

His shield gives you resistance to fire and splash damage. It's alt fire is a charge- a melee attack after a mid-range charge lands a mini-crit, and a full range melee attack gives you a full crit. It replaces the sticky bomb launcher.

I wonder if the shield can defend against a pyro airblast. Those will still be effective in dealing with an Eyelander-equipped cyclo--err, Demoman.

The Direct Hit. It's a rocket launcher for those who are good at leading shots and hitting enemies. The blast range is 70% smaller, but it shoots ALOT faster and is ALOT more powerful. A useless tool for a beginning soldier, but once you learn to play a bit I can see it being a flat out upgrade.

The soldier gets a pickaxe melee replacement. The more damage you take, the faster you run and the more damage you do. Now, here's the kicker: At full health, it still does the same damage as the shovel! This is a direct -upgrade-, no matter how you look at it.

The bugle enables a rage meter. When you damage/ kill enemies, the meter fills. When full, you can pull out a bugle and anyone near you lands 100% minicrits. Sounds like it could be great for defending teams!

The demoman's third unlock is...another sticky replacement? This one looks like an amazing defensive tool. It doubles your sticky count, and allows you to plant different clumps together and detonate them all at seperate times by pointing and clicking at them with the laser sight taped to the gun! As a drawback, they are no longer viable for close combat and detonating them in midair (Odds are damage is reduced dramatically within the first few seconds of dropping them, making them useless for a combat weapon but a great defense "sit and wait" weapon, but this is just me guessing.)

Today's blog update tells us why we don't have a winner yet and why the update will launch in the game later in the evening, plus it gives us the greatest image ever conceived.

Now the Heavy's getting it on with the Scout's mom. Must be the corporation doorknob.

And, as predicted, the soldiers stay victorious!

We get a nice pair of boots that reduce splash damage when rocket jumping. It replaces the shotgun.

That'll be helpful with the Direct Hit. No one uses the shotgun anyway.

Love the crafting system, doesn't detract at all.


Basically it's just a way to recyle duplicate items. Certain combinations of deplicates gives you scrap metal. Mix scrap metal together to get regained metal. Mix those to get refined metal. Mix three of those to get a hat, or use one of them and a class icon to get another weapon for that class.

Every update has its errors, unfortunately. The item preview for the Spy is messed up concerning his watch, and if the Red Team is victorious in a match, the weapon crit glow stays attached to the weapons when the team switches around and remains that way until the server switches.

And on top of that, they really don't want to give out the items. I've gotten two Demoman milestones and its only given me one of the weapons... and I already had it thanks to a random drop.

I'm finally switching to the PC version! I should have it up and running in ~5 days or so. Do people here play in pubs, or is there a specific server?

5 days, huh? Looks like you'll miss out on all the bugs they aren't fixing this weekend.

Finally got one of the Soldier weapons; the Direct Hit. Unfortunately, I got it from a random drop; I still don't have the Equalizer I should be getting for the first milestone. Annoying.

My friend recently got it for the PC as well--I'm getting pretty used to using WASD/mouse as opposed to the controller. I shouldn't be overly awful by the time I get it.

Neat I finally get a quote for a signature.

I spy check neurotically in the 360 version, but I assume that spies in the PC version know how to be a little sneakier/better over all. After watching my friend play the PC version, I've noticed that the skill level is higher overall.

As for Soldiers...oh god. Nine out of ten teams I've seen are 4-6 soldiers, 4-6 demoman and then a few randoms. Damn this update.

I was pro soldier/ spy BEFORE this update though. :V

After I got my weapons the hype had died down so I'm back to spying, which is fun since it's easy to pick a class to disguise as.

Yeah, I figured. Apparently, it's been like that for every class update.
