I wasn't sure if this belonged in Other Games or here (or maybe even Fan Work), but if I created this topic in the wrong section, feel free to move it.
Anyway, on to the point. I've been using something called "LSDJ" to write chiptunes lately, and I've often complained that I simply do not have enough light with my old original Game Boy (my old SP and GBA both have cracks in the screens, so this was the next best thing). Anyway, a friend and I thought it'd be an interesting idea to take the lights that light the screen in the SP, and put them into a DMG, along with some soldering etc. After a day or two, this is the finished product (the contrast is great!):
http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt188/thebestduckinthepond/IMG_0269.jpg - in dim light
http://i610.photobucket.com/albums/tt188/thebestduckinthepond/IMG_0270.jpg - in the complete darkness. This is a terrible picture, unfortunately.
My cellphone camera does not do this thing justice.
Downsides:
-To make space for everything, the red power LED had to be removed, but that didn't do much good in the first place.
-Battery life is decreased by about ~2 minutes
-Smudge on the bottom right that I didn't notice until after it was all done, and at this point, it's a little risky to attempt getting rid of it.
Some may call this unnecessary, but it was a fun project overall. I also was able to make good use of my old SP in the process.
I know I'm definitely not the first person to be doing this, but I'm still proud nonetheless.
