We didn't have a topic for this one already...?

It turns out that Super Mario Galaxy 2 is being released in May, much earlier than I expected! I'm really excited about that game; the first one was a total blast, and the sequel might even manage to top it.

Sounds like I'll have to complete my run of New Super Mario Bros. Wii before we get there.

I wouldn't be afraid of the games becoming too repetitive, or falling into a set pattern. In the past, there already was a Mario game with the following criterias:
- More of the same with a few new gameplay elements
- Levels based on the same pattern
- More difficult than the original
- Released on the same platform as it's prequel

I named... Super Mario Bros. 2, the Japanese one. It's a heck of a lot like the first SMB, but it didn't fix the franchise in a set pattern. Mario 3, World and so on each stood on their own. By the time that the next Nintendo console comes around, there will probably be a brand-new concept in the works.

Wow. I'm honestly a bit stunned: I was fully expecting a 9.5, IGN's review going like "it's still a great design, but we've seen it before and the new elements feel a bit out of place".

Instead, we get a perfect score all across the board, and they don't tend to give those perfect 10's lightly. After all, this is the first Wii game to get a 10... I think we're in for a real treat! I stumbled on the trailer once again a few days ago, and it looks as catchy as it did when the first Super Mario Galaxy was unveiled and was making actual newspaper headlines around here. I probably won't get a chance to play this for a few weeks as my current schedule is too packed already, but I'm very much looking forward to it.
