Hello folks!

I've got a quick question for those you've played through Fallout 3 and it's expansions. How large is the content of the expansions compared to the core games? Taken together, do they last as long as the original release? If not, how do they stack up?

I haven't played the game or its expansions, but my brother has, so I'll let him reply:

The DLC on its own its only about 3 to 4 hours extra per title. The longest DLC is Point Lookout, with an area map only a little smaller than the original release's world map. To me, they're all worth the investment, and several enhance the core game with some of the features they provide.

Broken Steel is by far the best add-on you can buy, in terms of importance:
- Broken Steel
- Point Lookout
- The Pitt
- Operation Anchorage
- Mothership Zeta

Broken Steel itself adds on a good amount of time just on the leveling aspect and the hunting around the wasteland, and that's before the missions. Point Lookout is alot more story oriented, but it's bloody hard as hell, and found the length came from the sheer difficulty of it. The Pitt is fun, and if you play it out fully can last a couple hours. Operation Anchorage is short, but the goodies are the real treat, maybe an hour or two tops. Mothership Zeta isn't that important, it lasts a little longer than Anchorage, but it isn't in any way important or necessary.

Broken Steel- 5-7 hours on leveling and story combined
Point Lookout- 3-4 hours of pain
The Pitt- 2-4 hours depending on how OCD you are
Operation Anchorage- 2 hours, it's hard not to beat this in the exact time, you will see what I mean if you play it
Mothership Zeta- 2-3 hours, but it's really boring and tangential in relation to the story, not really worth it.

Hope it helps.

If possible, buy the Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3. It's a lot cheaper than buying the Add-ons themselves. I bought Fallout 3 for 30 bucks a few months ago, and each DLC is 10 bucks. But if it's for PC, then I'm sure it's cheaper, I'm talking about the Console version =P

Oh and Point Lookout is the GLITCHIEST THING IVE EVER PLAYED. Every 5 flippin steps I took I froze.

Broken Steel is a must, if you beat Fallout 3, it makes it so you can play after the Ending, if you don't get Broken Steel, when you beat it, you have to reload saves before you beat the game. Very annoying.
