For these two series, there are 4 Zero games, one game collection, and two ZX games. And then there's one regular game soundtrack for Z1-3, and 8 remixed albums with one more on the way. There's a 7:10 ratio, and that's not including the recent events with both Rockman 9 and 10 having two soundtracks each, plus the Chiptunes album and the Capcom-endorsed fan album.

At this rate the odds are we will have more albums before we have more games. It seems to cost a lot less time, money and manpower to produce a remixed soundtrack than to put out a full game. I can't help but wonder if they make a greater profit margin off these types of albums as well. How do you guys feel about there being more music collections than games for these franchises? Do you like the trend, or do you feel like they're milking it?

Considering the high price of Japanese albums, I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was a larger revenue stream for them.

I've got to say that I love the idea of remixed or remastered music albums that go beyond simply putting a game's soundtrack on CD. I imported some of these, most notably the chiptune one, and I'm glad I did. Too often, I feel like games that deserve more get released then forgotten within six months, and this is a good way to keep them in our minds for longer. With that said, I think it's also wise to keep the number of side releases to a reasonable level.

Good points. As the internet steadily decreases our collective attention span, albums can garner further interest and hold onto that spotlight a little longer. It also helps alleviate some of the "It's been a month and we haven't heard a new Mega Man game announcement! THE FRANCHISE IS DEAD!!!" kinds of attitudes.

I remember being overwhelmed by Remastered Tracks Rockman Zero when it first came out, as much by just the concept as the music itself. It felt like a whole new threshold had been crossed. 13 albums later I don't really get as excited by them, but I do still enjoy the music and art that often accompanies with them.

On the other hand, as someone who tries to import all of these things, sometimes my wallet feels pretty frail. And things like Mythos' box set were a little heartrending, since as much as I would have liked to, I just couldn't justify paying again for 4 albums I already had just for the casing.
