20 years ago (plus three days), the web officially went online with the availability of the very first website! What people commonly call "the Internet" today is actually the World Wide Web, a subset of the entire Internet. After all, before websites were available, people could still connect to each other by e-mail, Telnet, Gopher, USENET, Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) and others.
Things sure changed a lot since those first websites were made available, and I can easily say that my life would be very different if this thing never took off the way it did. It eventually guided my studying path and work career, up to this point at least! I originally started to use the web in the late 1990's to search for information on various topics, and I quickly joined some gaming communities to play online games. I then decided to create my own websites, starting with a presentation for a science fair research project followed by a community site for the MTM2 racing team I was involved in. The core Interordi.com site then went live in August 2000.
So, what influence did the web have on your life?
