A new Humble Indie Bundle has been released!
I mentioned before in passing that I got my hands on the second one, as it came with a trial version of Minecraft. We're now at the fourth edition, and the game selection this time around looks really good!
The concept of these bundles is simple: you give an amount of money of your choice, anywhere from 0.01$ to over 100.00$, you select which portion of your money goes to the developers and the selected charities, and you get several indie games in return. It's a simple way to raise money for charities and get the names of little-known yet fun games carried around. One neat thing is that pretty much all games are available for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms, and many can be unlocked on Steam directly.
Offered this time around:
- Jamestown
- Bit.Trip Runner
- Super Meat Boy
- Shank
- NightSky HD
Also, if you pay more than the average (usually around 5-6$), you get these two games:
- Gratuitous Space Battles
- Cave Story+
I've been paying attention to these bundles in the past few months, and I've been impressed with the quality of the games being offered. VVVVVV, offered in Bundle #2, didn't last long but was totally worth it and a blast to get through. The Minecraft trial got me hooked to the game. Cave Story+, offered this time around, is one game that I've been curious to try. I heard some good things about Super Meat Boy too, even if I'm not sure yet if I'll really enjoy it.
I think this is worth checking out, especially if you like PC games... or are thinking about a gift to give to someone for Christmas.
Anyone else here enjoying indie games? I find many of these to be as fun if not more enjoyable than big studio releases. One notable example is Rosenkreuzstilette, which I wrote about some time back. Fan games sometimes fall in this category, too.
