The upgrade to Minecraft 1.2.5 is scheduled to hit tomorrow. This time around, you're safe to update as soon as you want: there are no compatibility issues between the client and the server!
The irony will be that there will be an unforeseen problem that'll mean people shouldn't update just yet. :k
