Nintendo Australia news, Japan already confirmed, other regions likely to follow soon.

So Nintendo is shutting down the Weather, News, Everybody Votes and Mii Contest channels for the Wii in a few months. This isn't too surprising considering the age of the console, but I still expected them to keep those running a bit longer while the Wii U builds up it's own momentum. Of course, the fact that the Wii Mini (the most recent version of the console) has no Internet connectivity makes the transition slightly easier, I suppose...

Wow, they made a smaller Wii?

I don't use those channels anyway, so it doesn't affect me, at least. A shame they're jumping to Wii U so quick though. Welcome to consoles of today, I guess.

Honestly, the news and weather channel were two of my favorite features on the wii console, simply because I currently only get 3 channels on my tv. XD

While losing some of those features won't hurt gameplay at all, it's still rather sad to see it go. I take it that this will be a common feeling to get from now on due to technology using the internet more often as time progresses. For example.... it would be interesting to see how this would effect the new xbox console coming out once it's no longer supported (if it indeed requires you to be connected to the net all of the time).

Yep, they came out with a newer wii, though I think it's only available in Canada:
