Hey Doc, I was just wondering, where would these new biomes be found in the World?
The new biomes will be found at the edge of the current world once we update to 1.7.
I know that many people will be interested in visiting the new areas, especially the canyons. To make that easier, and to prevent the server from collapsing under it's own weight, there will be a map trimming operation done before then. Old, unused areas will be removed to make room for new spots!

Hopefully near the epicenters such as Minetroplolis, Windgrabah, and Celzibar.
I think we should reset the server and start from over completely, so the horses spawn normally as well as new biomes. I know a lot of us have put in lots of time and work, but I think it would be cool to see all of us starting over and creating a new Creeper's Lab.
As tempting as that sounds, it would be quite the ordeal to move the whole server to a new seed.
Even if we use mcedit it would take months to collect all the builds we want and set them up correctly. Because we certainly are not going to setup a new seed without the builds we spent weeks on. But that's just my 2 cents.
Ultimately it is up to Doc, though he is quite serious about not changing the set up we have now.

He's saying start over COMPLETELY. Like don't transfer anything over. To which I say - once again, and with renewed vigor - I would quit. Not just my Op position. Not just the server. Minecraft. Forever.
If I can't bring the Taj, the Dragonsail and my stores, I'm out.
EDIT - WEEKS? Kat, have you MET the transoceanic? Or Orist's tower? Some things took MONTHS.

Man, last time I was on server that reset it went from a server populated with about 10 regulars to 2 regulars, unless it's a thing that the server does commonly (usualy more so in pvp servers ive noticed), i would never suggest a full reset as Septina does, people don't like loosing month's worth of work just to gain access to new biomes that could just be found by traveling out further/cutting off parts that were travled just to find mushroom biomes and whatnot

I think it would be a good idea to start fresh, but slightly different. We could bring the massive builds, but everything in chests would have to be wiped clean, It's not really starting fresh when you have a chest of diamonds. We could also add a world to the server and have that one be populated, while the old world would be either still in use or a reminder of what is possible. Have fun mentlegen!

O-O I just got a peep at the snapshots and WOAH, that is alot of new terrain generation. I would be lying if it didnt kinda a teensy weensy bit makes me want the server to restart (with same seed and transportation of major builds and towns)
And it would be sort of nice to get rid of the tiny strips of jumbled biomes and fix lagging townshend... But I am still very happy with the server as is, just having some wishful thinking is all.

Agreed. Unfortunately the best solution would take the most time. Read as ALL the time. Forever. While a few people have volunteered to help move structures, towns etc. from the current map to a new one via world edit and MC edit, the fact of the matter is that such an undertaking would be insanely difficult and time consuming; so much so that in the time it took to get everything ready, we'd have to start all over again.
The thing is, whenever someone says "move only the main structures", what does that include? Each town, plus the pathways to get between each one?
To avoid chunk borders, we'll want to include some padding around each area. How big would that be? Then there are the underground pathways. And the Nether, where people most likely want to keep all the tunnels they prepared and their stations. Buildings on the overworld can't be moved if the Nether connections are to be kept in working order.
When you add all that, you quickly reach a point where BIG parts of the current map have to be kept. At that point, is it really worth the effort, especially if the server has to stay down during the entire operation? I doubt it.

Every time I see the words "fresh" and "restart" in the same sentence, I kinda choke a little bit. xD I've seen stuff like Fern Gully and Orist's tower and the NetherCoaster and such and I think of watching Wind just MOVING the Dragonsail from over Kaikon and wonder what it would take to copy things out and move them to a fresh map.
Once you saved things like Minetropolis and Windgrabah and even just PART of Central, would it really be worth all the puzzle piecing and smooth edging that would need to be done? I can't imagine moving all that stuff around like that would be any easier than just deleting unused chunks and smoothing THOSE edges, if possible.
Can't say as I've every done anything even remotely like that before, let alone to that scale, but it just seems like it'd be one heck of an undertaking for the people who have, do, and can~
