So recently Overkill, the developers of Payday 2, decided they would take a bunch of their planned paid dlc and make it all FREE. There's a catch, of course.

Basically, every milestone they hit in regards to the number of people in their steam group, they'll release a piece of dlc. Everything that isn't unlocked by mid-October we'll eventually have to pay for, so naturally our goal is to knock everything out before then. All you need is a steam account, and you don't need to own the game. If you'd take a moment to register it would help a lot.

Keep in mind one of the earlier rewards is that on October 18th the first game, Payday: The Heist, will be free for everyone (assuming a download now, own forever system that has popped up a few times) so there's definitely something in it for those of you who don't own the sequel.

So, let's talk Overkill.

35 days ago they put up a site, http://overkillsoftware.com/whatsnext/

They hyped it up on the Payday official Steam page and it featured a timer using Payday's font and each day had small audio clips referencing Payday's universe.

Naturally, it led up to a game announcement completely unrelated to Payday.

So yeah, feel free to leave the group along with the large amount of people doing the same. Turns out people don't like being manipulated for some free PR. Both Payday games have ARGs in their games, and the obvious bait n' switch pretty much killed that entire sub-community. But hey, for tuning in every day for over the month we got a...baseball bat. So that's cool I guess.

It's a really depressing state of affairs.
