There are several elements I'm rethinking and planning to reorganize related to accounts and profiles, and I'd like your feedback first to see if I'm heading in the right direction and to make sure I'm not missing anything. Some of these are to improve how the information is accessed, others are privacy issues.
The basic idea here is to add some missing features, tune existing ones and better separate what belongs in a forum account and what should be elsewhere.
Accounts
As you may or may not know, when you register, you create an Interordi Account that's also shared with the forums (or vice-versa). There are a few issues with the way the current system works. Notably, we have a full members list that you can browse and search. This was popular when this was designed, but you don't expect this nowadays. It's also unusual to have a full list of accounts that you can just copy and browse (and spam...), so that's going away. It will be replaced by a basic list of forum staffers and contact points.
A key feature that's currently missing is the ability for people to delete their own accounts. While I can purge accounts manually, it's best if anyone is able to do it on their own. It will be added.
Do you see anything else about the design of the accounts that could be worth a review or an update?
Profiles
On to profiles. Everything right now is attached to the forum profiles, since it's all the same accounts. For example, here's mine. You can view my basic information, how many forum posts I've written, my contact info, etc. Then, you have several sections of somewhat unrelated content, including how many Mega Man games I've played and my Minecraft stats and achievements. Do these really belong there?
An idea I'm playing with is to extract unrelated content like the Minecraft profiles and stats and put them in their own section. It could be tied directly to the Creeper's Lab website, letting you look at player profiles without having to jump between its site and the forums. You would have one, two or more profiles on separate sites, each focused on a theme and including links to the others: Interordi profile, Minecraft profile, etc. What do you think of this approach?
Is there anything else I haven't covered here you'd like to see, fresh ideas or any concerns? Work hasn't started yet, so time to chime up!
