In your own words, tell me what you think happened to Protoman...

I believe he died in whatever event ended the original cast\'s exsistance. It was probably while helping his stop Wily\'s final bid for world domination.

The other alternative that I can think of is that he survived the event and eventually just stopped funcitoning since there was nobody who could either repair him or who he trusted enough to let them do it.

Thats true, but later on Protoman turns to Dr. Wily. Then he saved Dr. Wily\'s bro. Wily got mad, cause he was trying to kill his brother(I think). Wily then framed Protoman(Kidnapped Dr. Light). Protoman foiled Wilys planes and then just disapeared... He occasionally helped Megaman... But then stoped showing up...
What I need to know is why?

I think that somebody upgraded him and turned him into Zero

I\'m not sure what happened to him but Protoman has made an appearance in every Megaman game since MM3.

In MM5 he was framed by Wily because he helped Dr. Cossack\'s daughter escape and took her home in MM4. I don\'t know what his role is in MM8 but I do know he plays an important role in Megaman and Bass.

I\'m pretty sure that he was either killed by Zero, as the popular theory goes, or he died of that malfunction mentioned in Power Fighters. I have my doubts about the Zero theory though I\'m sure he may have perished trying to stop one of Wily\'s plans(maybe in MM9?).

I don\'t really think there\'s any evidence to support the claim that Protoman was rebuilt as Zero.

Protoman isnt Zero. No upgrades... Zero was made by Dr. Wily. Zero is sort-of a mix between Bass and Megaman.
