I think it was the NES as it started the whole console thing off. Not to mention that most the original series of MM was on it!

It was THE ONLY console at the time. Also, the controller which everyone takes for granted originated on this little horizontal slab of plastic!

Don\'t we already have a topic of this...?

I think the Sega and the SNES is a tie in that gaming age. The Sega had more action games and the SNES had the hold on RPGs. I love both types so I can\'t choose which system. ^_^

Poor little Sega; it gave a good fight...

I didn\'t mean that Sega didn\'t have RPGs, I meant that some/most people bought the SNES because it was a treasure chest of RPGs compared to the Sega. Also, people liked SNES RPGs better than Sega ones. For what reason, beats me. ;^^

Phantasy Star... One of my favorite MegaDrive games... ^_^

Are you people mad? WHAT ABOUT THE ATARI?!?

Ah, yes...Atari brought us Pong, Tempest, Missle Command and a lot of others.

In fact, I still have it downstairs....Wheee!

*Goes downstairs to play Atari*

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

I have to agree with Breakman. The SNES and Genesis brought us many great games during the 16 bit era, such as Super Metroid, Lufia, Phantasy Star 2-4, and especially Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I don\'t know if gaming will ever take it to the next level like they did ever again. Ahh, the nostalgia...

Snes ruled that gaming era just like gba is ruling this one(I\'m talking about portable) unless you count wonderswan in Japan.

Anyway chrono Trigger, Legend of the Six Stars. I mean come on in how many other games can you crush a guy with a giant frog or kill some creature with rain.

By the way Phatman did you ever repair your atari before or is it running like normal?

The SNES was the best console for its time period. It had a lot of great games including the first three of the X series and Chrono Trigger. Super Mario RPG was pretty fun too.

For the early consoles though NES was the best. It had fun games. Final Fantasy(still need to beat Chaos), Megaman, Ninja Gaiden, Legend of Zelda, Dragon Warrior, Super Mario Bros. 3, and of course Contra are probably among some of the best games made for that system.

It\'s amazing how much the graphics for games have changed since the days of 8-bit consoles.

The best system is the gameboy advance, especialy after june 15th 2003. Thats when the Television link is expected to come out in stores. The GBA is one of the reasons for this website right. I respect everybodys choice, but the GBA rules!!!!!!!!

I\'d have to say NES. SNES had a lot of original games. But I think NES was stronger in the category of good games. Besides, as great as the SNES was, and the games with the great graphics back then still had some honest-to-goodness gameplay in them, I hold SNES partially at fault for influencing the \"better and better graphics, and less and less gameplay\" trend that followed in the next gaming generation. Sadly, no one at the time but Nintendo knew how to make good graphics and still have good games, but oh, so many tried.

The NES. Nintendo made a gamble, and after Atari\'s falling out, decided to make another home system..and that\'s why we have the Gamecubes and PS2\'s of today.

Course, I\'m not gonna diss Atari either, they were pioneers, but made alot of stupid business decisions.. Ah well.
