It is just random the more battles you get into just level up

Elements random.
Guts:Use buster and charged shots alot.
shield:Heal and use barriers alot.
team:Use navi chips alot.
Shadow((Blue only))Use invisi chips alot.
Ground((White only))Change the ground area((To grass,lava,metal,etc.))alot.
