How can I make a BMP file smaller without saving it as a GIF (my computer won\'t let me) or \"smoothing\" it (like in JPG files)? Please help. Is PNG good?

PNG good, JPG bad. If what you want to save are sprites, JPG will loose a lot of the quality. PNG is able to do a lot without any quality loss.

also, if you save it as a BMP first, them open it again in paint[exit out then right-click on the sprite and select open with... then paint] then use the little select thing around it, then go to edit, then copy to, then, finally, put a .gif on the end... no color loss, i always do that...
