What\'s your opinion on AIM speak, or how some people chat, or.. whatever in the blue hell you\'d classify what the title type is like. Or even yet, \"1337\' talk?

I literally despise it. It shows a complete lack of respect for other people who read it. If you have trouble with spelling, fine, and a few typo\'s here and there are alright, but if you\'re lazy and just don\'t want to type correctly, then it\'s disrespectful. I mean, how can some people even make sense of what others are trying to say? It could easily be taken in several ways. I mean, why should anyone take the time to try and figure out what someone is trying to say, if the person who wrote it won\'t even take the time to make what they\'re saying easily understandable. And like taking the time to write a \"you\'re\" instead of a \"ur\" would hurt anyone.

[font=Tahoma] Heh, I kinda agree with ya there, big guy. I was bored one time, and when I did a ramdon search for someone to chat with on ICQ, and I happened to have met some dickwad who does 1337 tokk. I asked him politely not to talk like that , but bullshits me and says it\'s a fucking trend everywhere. And I kinda got tired of his shit and \"hung up\" on him, or whatever you\'d say. I do think it\'s impolite, especially when he/she ignores your request and continues on with that shit. But it\'s really hard to draw the line on what fits the definition of 1337 or not. Like if you were to write \"summore\", instead of \"some more\", or \"prolly\" instead of \"probably\", wouldn\'t you consider that 1337, since you\'re shortening the way you type? But again, everybody has their own thoughts about what is 1337 and what isn\'t. I really don\'t think there is an official handbook that claims what is or is not 1337.
But you what really pisses me off even more? Some assholes are so fucking disrespectful that they even make fun of your typos or your grammatical mistakes and say you\'re stupid. I heard a lot of such shit from ignorant fuckheads no matter where the hell I go. Some use that as a fucked up excuse to pick on others. I mean no one\'s Goddamn perfect, and they make fun of you for your own errors.

PS: I wasn\'t pressing your buttons there, Necro

No offense taken Packard. I\'ve kinda layed off correcting typo\'s unless the person does it alot. And grammar, well.. I just correct that because it\'s easy mistakes that alot of people make, and I\'m not too shabby at it. Just my way of getting things across usually isn\'t nice, but eh. I only flame or pick on others or whatever when people display a certain level of stupidity, in most cases..

[font=Tahoma]Come to think of it, you are/were the so-called grammar nazi aren\'t/weren\'t you o.O? Well at least I don\'t remember you jumping on my back for any of mine, although I tend to do it often no matter where I post. Doc once pointed out my grammatical error during chat yesterday night ( I\'d say it\'d be midnight on Thursday in Doc\'s zone ). Shit happens a too often, as Rush would say=P But I guess you and I end up in the same boat the way we pick on others, although it might differ in some aspects. I usually approach them in a sarcastic manner >).

(Oh, and another thing, Necro.. Packard said that they consider you stupid if you make a mistake. You don\'t do that..you just correct the mistake. You only call individuals stupid if they spam or break rules..heh..)

I myself am a spelling nazi. So therefore, I don\'t like l337 speak, or lamer speak. (I consider l337 speak to be |-|()|_|_()\\/\\/ like that..and lamer speak to be lolz u r nawt teh win) Of course, I type like that to get a chuckle out of people though.. And ironically, was part of a chat today concerning message boards and lamer talk..

* Reeve is getting a little annoyed by all these posts asking about X5 PC by people who have apparently not payed any attention to the newsposts talking about its delay
<Hollow> o.o
<comicchaser> lol
<Hollow> My solution: Ban them all. But that\'s my solution to everything.
<comicchaser> phew...I\'m sleepy...
<Kudou_Shinichi> Lol
<Hollow> Go to bed then, only logical.
<Reeve> \"Ya done good laddy. Now ya know what ye hafta do... Ban the users! Ban \'em all!\"
<comicchaser> yeah...
<Kudou_Shinichi> Yeah, we have to ban a few thousand people on MMBB
<Hollow> Indeed!
<comicchaser> me too?
<Darth-jin8> yep
<Reeve> A few is 3 or more, we don\'t have that many users on the MMBB :P
* Kudou_Shinichi tries to ban people but fails
* Reeve opens a board utopia that only allows smart people
<Kudou_Shinichi> o_O
<Hollow> Weeee.
<Hollow> That\'d be cool
<IrregularHunterZero> Hmm
<Kudou_Shinichi> I have to keep out then :(
<Reeve> Unfortunately someone has to consider the subjective measure of intelligence ;)
<Reeve> But a board that \"x7 iz gonna rock i cant wait\" is outlawed might be nice.
<Hollow> I\'d just..yeah, do that.
<Hollow> Keep out the bad typers.
<Reeve> It\'s implausible for MMBB, though. Way too large a site. It\'s destined to attract people like that.

I agree with you there, Necro. I even tell people to type correctly in chat rooms. Most of the time however, I\'m told to \"bug off\"... The problem is, I have difficulties reading AOL talk, 1337 and the like. The result is that I end up not being able to even understand the lamests of the lamers.

I just hate that kind of speak. It\'s hard to read, it\'s annoying, and it shows how people can be lazy. It\'s just a lack of respect toward other people...

On a side note, I saw read when I read the name of this topic :P

It all depends on the perspective of how people use the language. OMG U SUCK and shit like that is annoying, but Leet/|337 can be used in both good and bad context. Sometimes I use it when horsing with friends, but we don\'t go around harrassing people with it. God, that would be hell. (I\'m not much of a spammer. I\'m more of that fly you JUST CAN\'T SWAT. :P) But knowing Leet does help when dealing with lamers, who tend to think you don\'t understand them. Boy is it fun to harrass \'em in their native tounge. :P

As long as the word \"w3rd\" is not picked on... I agree with you Necro. It\'s becoming more difficult these days to carry a simple conversation online now that we\'ve got people using these hacker languages.

Packard, I didn\'t change my AIM name, I just haven\'t been using it lately. The name\'s secret, so I don\'t see why I would bother changing it.

Nah, w3rd is alright I suppose. The only problem is when people write whole sentences like that, but otherwise, that\'s fine, in my opinion.

Another thing is, it\'s also quite rude to do type like a lameass who can\'t spell. Just because your native language is English, don\'t just assume the person you\'re talking to\'s is. If these people weren\'t so actually had a brain, they\'d realize that if they were trying to talk to someone in a language that isn\'t their first and they don\'t know too well, and the other was sloppy, then the conversation would become very difficult. And that was a run on sentence, but eh.

Which leads me to another thing. If I know the person\'s native language isn\'t English, I never give the person a hard time, or try my best not to, with grammar mistakes and the like. It\'s not easy to communicate in another language always, so I try not to do that.

[font=Tahoma] Okay, Necro. Just wondering, although I never told anyone your SN anyway. But I don\'t think everyone would necessarily think most speakers\' mother language is English, regardless of where they live. I live in Japan, although English is my native language. What also annoys me is the way anime and manga freaks think it\'s cool by showing off and using Japanese in their Goddamn posts. But of course, it depends on how he/she uses them. If they get carried away with such shit, I think it\'s really annoying. However, these idiots don\'t even know how to use the language properly ( ie, wrong kana, bad grammar, etc , possibly due to the use of those crappy online translation systems like Babelfuck and Arsevista). And it gives me the pleasure to pick on them for their crappy usage, and insult them, thus making it amusing instead :muha:

By the way, speaking of getting annoyed by such leet speak, you should have seen what I did during chat a couple of times, Necro. You should ask Doc what I did. You\'ll probably flame me for what I did back them

Ano... Sometimes, I do tend to mix Japanese in with my English, though I do it more in chat than on the MB... I rather like using Japanese because usually, the people I\'m talking to understand it or will ask nicely, or something. I also use Japanese words for names because I have a rough time being creative, so I look for a word on English-Japanese dictionaries online that best match an element of a particular character. (Although, Serra\'s name is Italian... o.O) Not all Anime Otaku try to use it improperly, but atleast we want to learn the language.

No need. I hardly use Japanese unless I\'m talking or responding to a real Japanese person. I\'ve seen a lot of those misused words in several places I\'d rather not mention. I know the language, but I do not use it to make people think I\'m cool or something....
