In the old games, Sonic the Hedgehog\'s shoes were called \"Super Sneakers\". I\'m not sure if Sega calls them that now days?

Anyways! My question! Does his sneakers give him the ability to run fast or not? I think it all depends on what source you believe.

The old \"Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog\" (the Disney made one) has an episode which Doctor Robotnik stole Sonic\'s shoes and he could not fast run anymore (\"a normal hedgehog\"). Some books that follows close to the anime version \"(The New Adventures of?) Sonic the Hedgehog\" (remember Princess Sally, Bunny, etc.) kinda hints that when Sonic was young, he was fast but when Uncle Chuck gave him some Super Sneakers, he was insanely fast.

Now, for the other side. The American comics made by Archie Comics (really old issues I\'m going to be talking about), Sonic runs bare foot once (not sure if it was in sonic speed but he was running). In some European comics, he had only socks on and he was running pretty fast (maybe the SOCKS have the power! (jk) ^_^).

The Sonic X series and the games say nothing about this (well, I\'m not sure if it says anything about this in the Sonic 1 manual...).

What do you think? Yes, I think too much about video games, don\'t post that. ;^^

Heh heh, I Sonic Adventure 2 the were called \"Scorchers\" (a type of SOAP shoe that is ment for grinding fast). That\'s why you see all those ads for SOAPs in SA 2.

So THAT\'S why they had those ads posted everywhere in the first level. ;^^

The introduction to Sonic Labyrinth (old Game Gear title) says that Dr. Robotnik replaced Sonic\'s shoes with Slow Down Boots, so Sonic can\'t go fast anymore. Based on that, I would say that the shoes indeed help his running speed.

Sonic Labyrinth I haven\'t played. ;^^ I guess, according to the games, the shoes have the power.

You know, if you think of it, it\'s kinda sad. Sonic isn\'t really a sonic hedgehog but an ordinary animal with special shoes...

Well he has diffrent shoes in SA2 so It depends on what source indeed.
I follow the British Sonic comics where \"Kintobor made Sonic shoes to run fast then there was an explosion which gave him the powers without needing the shoes (he took them anyway) and turned Kintobor in Robotnik(OMG!!1one What a shock his name was reversed)

Oh and in the process of becoming evil he gained150pounds atleast. XP

Who knows what made the shoes so damn special, Maybe gamma rays!
And the turning evil thing, Just think \"classic evil dude who was nice\".

Actuly look at the sources. They don\'t match depends on what you follow and since I read the comics when I was like 9 guess what stuck.

Sonic\'s shoes never gave him the speed. I\'ve always heard it keeps him from melting his feet or something.

I don\'t have any sources on this, but I doubt that not having the shoes would slow him down to the speed of a regular hedgehog. They might help, but I\'m pretty sure that Sonic is fast enough by himself

I don\'t think the shoes were the thing, I think that the Slow down boots were like Iron, not affecting the shoes, but slowing Sonic himself

I\'m starting to lean towards that Sonic shoes don\'t give him the power (now). I thought about it, why would someone name a child \"Sonic\" if he wasn\'t fast first off?

Phatman reminded me of another question: What is Sonic\'s favorite food now? Is it still chili dogs?

Well, blue is cool and means \"boy\", red is bold and rebellious, and white... who would wear any other color socks and gloves? ;^^ That\'s my guess.

Sushi? Why would Japanese think Americans eat that? (Sorry if I offended anybody.) Remember, Sonic X takes place in the US, not Japan.

Good question... Maybe all the \"freedom\" and ability to be rebellious? Maybe the creator like the US? Maybe they randomly picked a country out of a hat? The real reason I really don\'t know.
