That's exactly why you take home ec. You get to eat and you get the benefit of a school credit. I don't know how things are done in the U.S. but we have to get a certain number of credits to graduate from high school. I took home ec and I don't regret it, but it was probably one of the most frustrating times I've ever had to deal with. We were given a microwave cookbook which was basically a liting of recipes that depended on the microwave.
Foods that I can't make (recipes that I can't follow):
Microwaved stuffed potatoes - It didn't explode, but tasted really terrible.
Chocolate on a stick - This was an actual recipe that involved melting chocolate into a mold and putting the stick into the chocolate. My outcome was something so hard it could chip a concrete wall. Not kidding.
Oven baked pizza from scratch - I think we added a little too much yeast. It was mostly crust and a tiny little circle of toppings in the middle.
Nachos - Don't even ask.
Brownies - I learned something, brownies are flammable.
One more thing: Don't try to make microwave soup, even if it's from a recipe.
It just doesn't work.
