Topic: Political Correctness
Is it a good thing?

I\'m going to keep it short because I\'m updating my sprite comic archives.
Anyways, you try to be politically correct so you don\'t hurt peoples\' feelings. Sometimes people go overboard and say stuff like \"African-American-Anglo-Saxo-You-Know-Whatever-ians\" when the person you\'re talking to wouldn\'t mind if you called him black or brown or puce. Sometimes people don\'t care enough and you get stuff like:
\"What kind of \'ese\' are you?\"
\"Excuse me?\"
\"Oh you know, Chinese, Japanese, Cantonese?\"
Anyways, I think one should try to be safe rather than sorry and go for something not patronizing and yet not overboard.
Jack of all trades.
Master of none.
Just to say something about the male and female situation, one thing I cant stand is the equalization debate.
As most people know, it was a major broblem in many problems that women were not treated equal, in work or sosial status. That changed and MOST places this is hardly a problem.
Now I support equalization, but what I DON\'T support are feminists and masculists. I wached tv the other day, and a comerital for Idol was on. There was a girl being asked why she wanted to win, and she replied \"I think a woman should win this year\". This might not be the best egsample, but think about it. Feminists and masculists talk loudly about their gender and wants everybody to hear them. Where did the equalety go? One time I was at a political meeting, and one of the parties were getting votes for being an all feminist party. Now I know I\'m hacking a bit more down on the feminists now, Masculists do many supid things as well, but I am focusing on being equal, and at my home, feminists get much more respect than they deserve.
Take this example that happined a few weeks ago: A hospital was in need of new nurses, but they had to few male ones so they made an ad about it in the paper, 2 days later the feminist party was on their necks! However a month ago, a mechanic shop set up an ad for female workers and they were praised.
All people want to be treated equally, but masculists and femineists aint making it any better. If political correctness is there not to hurt anyone, why do they support people that do?
I am sorry if I offended anyone, or if I was off topic. *runs away*

I agree with you about the feminist thing, Snakeman. That\'s why I never disclose my gender. For I\'ve been at art sites where wonderful artists were looked down upon because of their gender. They weren\'t looking at the art, they were looking at what sex the person was and judging them.
Now alright, I\'m going to be flamed here or something, probably.. But I was just wondering. We have BET right? Black Entertainment Television. Because \"every other channel\" is White Entertainment Television. That\'s obviously untrue, I have yet to see an entire network with all white folk in every acting position, cartoon or not.
And when black comedians do stand up, what is one of their most popular skits? The ol \"white people do this, but black people do THIS\" thing. If I were to do stand up (yes, I\'m as pale as Hello Kitty) and do the same thing, but reversed...I\'d get booed off or even worse. WHY? Why has it become illegal (not technically.. XD) to make fun of \'minorities\' if your skin happens to be light?
Equal rights is bull. Political correctness is fine to a point..I don\'t mind the \'African American\' thing, or the \'don\'t call them mexican, they\'re latino\' thing. But when it comes down to \'he can\'t be arrested because the cop who pulled him over doesn\'t know Spanish, therefore the guilty party didn\'t know his rights\'...that\'s just unfair to everyone else.
Snakeman.EXE made a very important point to me. Women fought for their rights for decades, and that\'s fine. However, now, some feel like they need to get more than men, as payback or something. That annoys me, because it\'s simply reversed sexism, yet people don\'t see it that way.
When I used to do science fair competitions, there were many awards available in various categories. Quite a few of these were only available to girls, just \"because\". Why is that? Why would they be able to win specific awards that I\'m not eligible for, just because of the gender difference? It\'s not like there was a lack of girls participating in those competitions, so the argument of \"promoting science to the girls and women\" isn\'t applicable.
Understand that I\'m not angry or anything here. I\'m just saying that it\'s unfair. One way or another is wrong.

There was a thing that my pastor read around Christmas time that made fun of Political correctness.
I don\'t remember any of them word for word, but there was a list of Christmas Songs, but written in a Politically correct way. There was one for \"We Three Kings\" about the three wisemen, but each of the words was exchanged for a word that was more scientific, and less likely to offend someone.
Some of them were really kind of funny.
~ Nothing is foolproof to a truly talented fool.
The three wisemen may not have been men since they are referred to as \'magi\' and that doesn\'t imply gender. It has been generally accepted that they are men but were they really?
Just something to think about.

Political correctness. Something I\'ve found myself questioning many a time...
Put simply, you can\'t live with it, and you can\'t live without it. I\'m certain we can all see that \"political correctness\" isn\'t always as just as we want it to be. But sadly, I\'m afraid an even larger and more consequential justice would be drawn from not having it. Certainly we all know that slavery was not a good descision. We all know that people of all races, genders, and religions deserve just as much as the next guy. But sadly, because there was so much tension in the past, all races have sort of been pitted against eachother. Because of this, the formerly supressed want payback. The idealistic way of looking at the situation is that tensions will melt away, and all races will trust eachother as it is meant to be. But, of course, this is merely idealistic. The truth is, we are tense towards one another. And we could remain this way for any number of years.
We can\'t live with it, and we can\'t live without. Either way we would choose to go with the subjects of political correctness, someone is bound to come out angry.
Pardon me if this is not my best debating ever. I\'ve been sick for the past few days.
