They confirmed it\'s there last year, yes, but the NASA did a press release today giving a lot more details out. This is the release of the news to the public at large, instead of being limited to some people in the scientific community.

Now, I\'m curious to see if it will pass as a planet or not. It\'s a bit smaller than Pluto, and some astronomers already say that Pluto shouldn\'t even be considered as a planet. That elliptical orbit could play against it\'s nomination as a planet, too.

The name doesn\'t exactly roll off my tongue so well. \"Sedna..\" Goddess of the sea my foot, they probably misspelled Sedan.

Yes, I remember reading about it. Unknown Entity sent me the link.

I read it through an australian news site...and I \'magically\' saw a Y on the end....so the headline to me read:

Sidney, a beautiful planet? Or our 10th planet?

Or at least, that\'s how I interpreted it at first. I was groggy. Anyway, there\'s a lot of controversy about whether or not pluto constitutes a planet or not. A lot of \'what is a planet\' debates started...and they\'ve still been going on.

did you know Pluto is less than 1/2 the size of OUR MOON?

Makes you wonder how much gravity the Sun really has....but then, the earth is strong enough to maintain Luna\'s orbit, so why not Sol being powerful enough to hold pluto? Or \'Sedna\', being as far away as it is. A planet to me is a HUGE spherical mass orbiting a star.

Not an asteroid, because you\'ll NEVER find a spherical one....well, not planetarily spherical anyway.

That\'s.....just about all I have left to say.

Are you not? What? You don't understand me?

Well, ?ƒ?†¥?§©ç??§´ƒß? to you too!

I dare you to ban me Dr.Cossack!

Yeah, if memory serves me, then I think it was speculated that Pluto was once a moon of Uranus.

Which makes sence based on both it\'s size and it\'s orbit in ralation to Uranus...

Is it possible to have a planet composed entirely of liquid or would it just explode into a hojillion shards of ice?

I don\'t think something smaller than Pluto should be considered a planet. It\'s more like an asteroid if it\'s that small. Pluto itself is borderline. It\'s just a large asteroid.

That would be Neptune, not Uranus, but otherwise you\'re correct. After all, Pluto has about the correct size to be a satellite of another planet. However, in that situation, where do you fit Charon (Pluto\'s satellite)?

Heh heh people said Uranus......i mean *cough* i think that Sedna probably wont be classed as a planet because of its size after all it is smaller than pluto.

It\'s possible... I don\'t think that the real explanation has been found yet. It might take a while. After all, Pluto has only discovered in 1930.

That doesn\'t prove anything. Some asteroids have a smaller asteroid orbiting them. Does that make them planets are well, since they have \"moons\"? I don\'t think so.

I don\'t think that the fact that Sedna is round is sufficient to call it a planet. I also don\'t think that being \"not round\" is a requirement for being an asteroid.
