There is no Boltaga. That\'s Thundaga, and Quakega only applies in FF7 for it became a stand-alone L3 spell in the other games. As usual, it was called Quake3 in the translation.

Refresh my memory-- exactly which FF game are those spells from? I\'m thinking FF8 but of course, I could be wrong... :conf:

Actually, those spell names are present in almost all of the Japanese Final Fantasy games. I bet you the localization staff at Square EA in the U.S. thought those names were a bit too weird for the American audience at first, so they had it changed to Fire1, Bolt3, among others. I have no idea why they decided to use the original spell names in the English versions of 8-10, however. All I know is, it never changed in my side of the globe...

Actually, Square EA didn\'t exist until after FF VII. FF VIII was the first game to be distrubuted over here by Square EA, because the deal with Electronic Arts wasn\'t made before. Since then, they used the Japanese spell names, and the translations have seemed to get better.

*shudder* FF VII\'s translation was very crappy..

Ah... I see. Hmm... When you said the translation of FF7 was crappy, how bad was it? Humor me a bit here, I\'m just curious...

Was it somewhere along the lines of the AYB crap? I just can\'t stop wondering why most Japanese people have such a hard time learning any foreign language. And mind you, I said \"most\", not \"all\"

Anyone remember the Junebug joke?

There\'s spelling mistakes that occur a few times in the game. There\'s also some grammar mistakes too in the game\'s script.

Well, it wasn\'t THAT bad either. I\'ve seen much worse on other games.

Oh, I know, like X6. Nothing against the game, but it had not the greatest translation either. I was just saying that it had more noticable mistakes than those that followed; Square did a better job with the translation of their recent games.
