The avida homepage

Some scientists from the Digital Life Lab of California Tech have pretty much proved evolution. They made a program -called avida- which is essentially a programming language. It generated small pieces of code which would process information {eat it} and use it to replicate themselves. They have taught thenselves to add, to do an operation called Equals, and have about the intellegence of a fly.

The main part is, they did it RANDOMLY. You can download avida from the above link.

Have you tried Avida? I\'m not sure what it is.

On the subject of evolution, when people say there is evidence to support it, they\'re half-right.

There\'s two types. Macro and Micro.

Microevolution is when creatures evolve on a small scale, yet remain the creatures they were (i.e. Peppered Moth)

Macroevolution has very little to it\'s name. It\'s when a creature evolves on such a large scale that they become completely new life-forms.

Actually, you\'re really close, Mega X. Microevolution would explain several things about evolutionary evidence. HOWEVER!! It also helps to explain Macroevolution. By your explaintion, I\'ve figured the thing out in about thirty seconds. Macroevolution is just cumulative Microevolution. In other words, it\'s just a bunch of Microevolutions added together, like math.

Example: 1+1=2. Not much difference between the numbers. But if you contunially add 1 to the number, you get gradually larger numbers. Eventually you get into the millions, and even further. This results in a big difference between the numbers, obviously.

In other words, small evolutionary changes in one species over time add up to create a new specie entirely, and therefore explaining the phenomenon.

I know the researchers at these questions:
1. is evolution real?
2. do different food amounts change speed?
3a. why sex? {u know, avida is like a bacteria, then they changed it to add that}
4. does the prescence of life change a planet?
5. er, something else...

Sorry if I confused anyone. The subject threw me into \"Dictionary Mode\" as my Biology teacher from last year might call (I can sometimes give dictionary grade defenitions and explanations to things without having to think much).

As to those questions...
1. All signs point to maybe.
2. Yes. Abundant provides ideal conditions and a lack of need to evolve. Smaller amounts allow only those best suited to the environment to survive.
3. Uhhh.... Because?
4. Yes, expecially if the life is plant-like or highly intelligent.

well 3, ithink you were referring to, is cause sex is much less effiecent then asexual reproduction. I mean, look how fast bacteria reproduce?
