I\'m starting to get really bored with RPGs. They are always like this:

1. An unlikely hero who saves a princess.

2. A whiney kid who wants something and goes through the whole game wanting it.

Now, is there an RPG that is DIFFERENT that is worth playing? I mean c\'mon! I know there are some people out there getting bored of the same RPGs with the same plots, too.

You are not kidding Keitaro. Besides those two, there is always one more, that I am SO sick of, and most, if not all, FF are like this.

3. A hero of an unlikely background goes to save the world.

I am sorry, but say that and half the RPG\'s that I know get shot 50 times then roll over. Let me list them. (*Rants uncontrollably*)

Heres my version of that list:

An RPG has:

1 A low level guy whom people expect to save the world.

2. Same people in every town (CLONES)

3. People asking you to do task for no f**king reason

4. Really corny villian

Welp, Thats my list!XD

[font=Trebuchet MS]I\'ve only found one RPG series to offer that doesn\'t follow the \"save the princess\" or \"whiny megalomaniac hero\" plotlines, though it does involve an unlikely hero making a huge step. That part of the plot doesn\'t really seem important though. The series is \"Suikoden.\"

If you haven\'t played it, I\'d highly recommend it. Each game of the series is highly satisfying, given all the characters and the development of each.

Of course I say this because I just finished Suikoden IV tonight, and I\'m getting nostalgic about the series . Seriously though, if you haven\'t already, give this series a shot (if you can find it, that is).

Rockman EXE is classified as an RPG, and pokemon is too. I prefer RPGS like that, Yknow, ones NOT involving swords and sh*t like a warrior, cept for Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy.

Xenosaga isn\'t a game, it\'s a interactive movie...well, the first one anyway, never got around to play the second one

Yes, I realize there are almost more cutscenes than gameplay, but come on people. It\'s not that bad.

Heh, can\'t help you find an original RPG plot. I can, however, tell you the ending to Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1. You see, you get all the way to the end, and you expect to see a big \"THE END\" and they all live happily ever after.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Instead, you die, your family dies, everything you fight for dies, and two people are left at the end: the princess you\'ve saved who marries your best friend, and your best friend who, at the last second, stabs her and kills her in a desolate church graveyard, and then whines about his fate.

Is that enough of a plot twist for ya, lads and lasses?

That is a very big twist.

Serpentarius, that game is so good that I must edit your post so the ending is spoiler tagged. ^_^

RPGs that don\'t follow the main stream stories... I heard that a new RPG for PS2 called \"Digital Devil Saga\" is supposedly original, but I\'m not going to stoop that low to play an original story.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a bit different but still follow some aspects of ordinary RPGs.

Haven\'t played Suikoden yet so I don\'t know about that one. It sounds fun though. ^^

Hea. I can\'t think of any \'original\' RPGs. Strange... I do know a few Japanese RPGs that fits the description, but I bet you wouldn\'t be interested in those (Plus, I forgot the titles, I haven\'t played them yet. Aren\'t I helpful? ^^). ^^;;

The second one is even more of a movie, you fight cutscene enter next area cutscene, I played for not even 10 hours and had to switsh discs, plus the characters look weirder, and no more awesomely awesome cutscenes that was in the first game.

You people should listen to this gentleman. Suikoden is a very good RPG series that is overshadowed by other series. Unfortunately, I doubt any of you will be able to locate either of the first two unless you use ebay.

Well, if you really want an entertaining RPG, try, \"The Bards Tale,\" it\'s kinda satirical toward modern RPG\'s. It\'s highly addictive and there are many funny moments, buy it.
