One time, I had some SEVERE slowdowns during one of those outbreaks that makes it on the news. I was up til midnight updating Norton Antivirus. About a month later, I did a full reinstall. When I got around to installing Norton, my active programs bar on the taskbar was gone. After that, I switched to Norton Internet Security, which didnt eat my taskbar. (I use AVG now, since its free and updates more quickly and efficiently)
About two years ago, I had just switched to a new Athlon 1800+ comp and had all my files from my P2 set in my new XP install. One afternoon, XP failed to boot. The bios did not recognize any OS on the harddrive. I had to reinstall and I lost several years of crap I had accumulated.
About 8 months ago, my laptop decided to have a REALLY corrupted harddrive, just as I got to class. It got to the point when Windows was loading, then spit out a screen full of different colored lines. Looked like a pair of clown pants, or bad wallpaper. That evening, after letting it sit for a few hours, it worked fine. I missed a lot of notes in class and barely got my homework done. That was my 16th birthday, by the way :madgo:
About a month before that, my laptop did the same thing as my desktop did with the lost OS. Had to get it re-networked for school and have tons of software reinstalled for my classes.
I hate Microsoft and have been trying for years to get away from their horrible OS. My dream is to be able to move to Linux and still have a way to run all my Windows apps without dual-booting. Sadly, this is currently impossible. If we all used Linux, the world would be a much better place.
