Being a public Minecraft network comes with some challenges, especially when it comes to managing new players. Not everyone works out, and some actually need to be forcibly removed for the best of the community.
In order to make the list of bans more available to everyone, as well as warn others of potential issues, we've compiled a public Wall of Shame. This lists every single ban that happened on the Creeper's Lab history, along with an explanation if available, and gets autom ...
For various reasons, some large regions have been claimed over time: big cities, natural reserves, large building projects, etc. To help new and old players alike to identify these regions and avoid trying to build when it's not possible, they have now been flagged on the map. You can hide these markers by using the layers button at the left and unchecking the "Regions" option if you so wish.
If you can think of other areas that should be identified, please reply to this news post or ...
The April challenge is now live! This time around, I've pulled something from the archives: you get to explore a world that was only available for a single day, two years ago, but this time with a full month ahead of you to dive in deeper... or get higher?
This is a free month: you don't need to hit any specific targets, just entering the world will be enough to score 5 Merit Points. That gives you all the latitude to have fun exploring this world and make what you can of ...
It's been awhile, so I figure it's time to see if I can kill.... Er... Entertain the lot of you.
This Saturday, April 21st, at 10pm est, I am inviting everyone to Skelebrony Nether Fortress. This has been my private hunting grounds for a long time, and for one night only, I'm letting people in. However, it costs a diamond at the door.
For the event, there's a few rule changes. I'm sure you'll notice it right away, so we'll keep it mum. Some stated ru ...

February's challenge is now live! This time, we're going back to UHC (Ultra Hardcore), where survival is paramount! The world is locked to hard difficulty, and your health doesn't regenerate on its own, so you need to be very careful not to take in much damage. Also, if you die for any reason, you'll be thrown out of the world for a week, so be careful!
There are four individual targets to reach during the month. Each completed one will earn out 5 Merit Points:
- Craf ...
Many of you have already asked, and it's now time: the Christmas cards are back!!
For those new to this, every year I send out a holidays card in the mail directly to you, featuring a scene from the server, and its free! All you need to do is submit your physical mailing address, wait, and you'll get one around the holidays!
You have two ways to claim yours: in Laurasia, visit the Seasonal Park (in Central, North, using the Residential Line) and find the giant mailbox r ...
Today's the Winter Solstice, which means that it's the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Who says short days says long nights, and sometimes you wish you could sleep it all away. While doing so in real life might not be practical, what if we could at least do it in-game?
I'm introducing today a new functionality to the survival servers: sleep through the night by majority instead of unanimity! What this means is that we no longer need to get all players t ...
The December seasonal event, the Grindatron, has been going since the beginning of the month and many people seem to be enjoying it so far. Based on the feedback gathered from the community, I've done the following balance changes:
- The Weakness effect applied when you run out of energy is now lower, giving you a chance of breaking boats and minecarts.
- The energy spent travelling using vehicles (minecarts, boats, horses) has been halved.
- Building now has an energy cost, set to ...
All combatants, young and old, men and women, novice or experimented, are summoned to the Spider Dome! A recent outbreak of monsters has been discovered there, and we need all capable hands to repel these foes before they can threaten the citizens!
The battles will begin this Saturday, at 10pm Eastern time. Bring yourself, your friends, your weapons and armor, and prove to everyone in a show of glory that you are the best at what you do!
Welcome everyone to the official unveiling of the Creeper's Lab!
This is a website! This is a Minecraft server! It is both! For more information about the server, it's connection information, and details on the whitelist, please see the server information page.
As of right now, the server is running Beta 1.9 Pre-release 5, and your client must be running the same version to be able to connect. If you're on 1.8.1 and don't know how to upgrade, please follow these ins ...
This month's UHC map is a bit different than the previous ones: I've decided to incorporate the Race Away component from last June's competition for a mixed challenge of hardcore survival and running!
As in the last race, the Nether has been completely disabled. As a result, only two of the normal UHC targets are reachable, each worth 5 Merit Points:
- Crafting a bookshelf
- Crafting an enchantment table
The additional goal this time around will be to make the most dis ...
Salutations Netizens of Miranda and Creeper's Lab,
Miranda's first contest has come to a close, and sadly it was a mediocre turnout, however all participants will be recognized if able. There was a grand total of four builds, only one of which qualified in the 3 prize categories. I am thankful to all those who participated.
First a look at the winner!
Doctacosa's Concorde.
A simple, yet 1:1 scale Concorde jet! It looks a bit plain, but that's how the actua ...
Here's another of those features that some have been requesting for a long time: the ability to set a custom title to be displayed next to your username! It's available right now for Patreon backers at the $2 tier and above! Keep on reading for more information on that.
In game, use /customtitle NEW_TITLE to set a new title. To clear it and go back to your normal rank, simply do /customtitle with nothing after. That's it!
By now, all of you that jumped to 1.12 must have noticed the new recipe notifications that appear in the corner of your screen. These exist to tell you that new crafting recipes are available based on your inventory, but many if not most of us don't need to be reminded that you can craft stairs, or sticks, and things like that.
To make these notifications go away, I've added a special button on the spawn platform of each world. Go there, press it, and you'll automatically b ...
After a long delay thanks to the temporary blindness of one such judge, the BOATS Contest results are finally in!
UE, Bob, and myself set out this weekend to score each of the 9 completed entries with between 1 to 10 points based on their creativity, use of materials, and their general design. After tallying up the scores, we have the following three winners:
First Place - Anonymous_SoFar
Second Place - Zixxter
Third Place - SorathePumpking
The set of survival and games servers have been updated to Minecraft 1.12 today, so be sure to update your game version for even more fun! All plugins and features have been migrated successfully to this new version and are available right away with no notable changes. As usual, please let me know if you notice something not behaving like it should.
As always, Takao with its modded setup will remain on 1.10.2. As a reminder, it was recently updated to run PixelMon 1.0.4, which fixes sever ...
For the seasonal event of June, you'll be tasked with a brand new challenge: Race Away! As far as you can! And leave others in the dust!
The challenge is to get to the highest X value, by heading East, on the Seasonal server. You're free to head in other directions, but your final score will be determined by your highest X coordinate alone! Brave this new landscape and see how far you can reach. There is no world border! As mentioned, the e ...
As some of you already know, if all goes according to plan, Mojang will release Minecraft 1.12 this Friday. However, as usual, we won't be updating right away, so make sure that your launchers are set to use 1.11.2 until then!
The Spigot team will likely provide 1.12-compatible versions quickly; however, this new version includes several challenges with plugin updates that could cause things to take some time. I'll post more updates in this space if anything significant deserves ...
I've run several updates on our Discord setup since it was introduced, and I thought I'd take the time to summarize the main items for all to know!
As a quick recap, I introduced Discord to the Creeper's Lab earlier this month. This new chat platform, available in its own client, on the web or on mobile, is linked with the in-game chat and IRC channel, so anyone in the community can be somewhere and interact with others. To add the community, simply use this invite link: ht ...
My Patreon campaign launched a year ago today, and I thought now would be a good time for an update along with a refresher for those who don't know about it!
Basically, I'm running a Patreon campaign to help cover the ongoing costs of my online gaming community projects and raise funds to go even further. The most visible and most time-consuming aspects of this are the multiple Minecraft servers, of course, but this goes beyond that: it also applies to things like the Starbound ...
I'm happy to launch tonight a new version of the chat bridge that links the various Minecraft servers along with our IRC channel! This is a major upgrade on several fronts; the most obvious change from the get-go is that there will be a single bot in the IRC channel, CreeperBot, relaying all the messages. You'll notice that the text output in IRC is now a bit different as it includes the location of each chatter. Things in-game mostly look the same.
Ever since gates were introduced for the Nether rail network, the former Nether hub, Nether Central Station, is receiving a lot less traffic. This made the post office far less convenient to reach, since you'd need to backtrack through the Nether only to check your mail. To improve on this, we've decided to move the post office to the natural trading location of many players: Point Zero, in Rodinia, right next to the spawn point.
For those not familiar with the post office, it ...
A few updates ago, Minecraft received the Combat Update, rebalancing the game's attacks and defense, creating a whole new style of play. Some have embraced the change, others have disliked it, but many haven't really done any PvP since then. How about changing that? :-)
I'm inviting everyone to show up this Saturday, at 10pm Eastern time, during Events Night for a small PvP tournament! Contestants will be put in brackets, fighting 1 vs 1, until only one is left standing!
Multiple attractions and mini-games have been built by our players over the years! Some are neat places to visit, several are PvP arenas with different quirks, while others are full blown mini-games built within Minecraft.
To give yourself an idea of what's available, you can check the Attractions page at any time! The list includes a mention on how many players are required to enjoy each option. The page has just been updated to include the additions of the past several months.
Many of you are aware that I've been working on a redesign of Grand Central Station for a while. Part of that was to create a better looking building, with an improved layout for travellers to find their way around. This also had an extra goal, which I'm ready to unveil today!
Many of us have wanted for the longest time the ability to ride rails through Nether portals, so you could easily travel from point A to point B without going through th ...
Carrying on from my previous announcement, the build phase for the Boats Contest has now begun.
To reach the build site
From Nether Central, take the Eastern Mainline to Super Shroom (the 3rd stop), and from there to the Hub of Divine Transportation. From there head down 2 flights of stairs and across the room in the northeast corner to the Scythe Islands line. On the other side of the portal you'll find yourself a button press away from the build site. There are currently 10 plots ...
