In a bit of a shocking move, Mojang released Minecraft 1.10 less than four months after 1.9. As always, the servers aren't ready for it yet, so be sure to stay on 1.9.4 for now to play with us.
Considering that this is a much smaller update with fewer breaking changes, the upgrade process should be faster. There are still some issues to handle properly, most notably the availability of the new Nether blocks. I don't have any insights on this as of yet; more news will follow when ...
This time, I'm not giving you a theme: I'm handing you a setting! You're getting an island to build on, located in an ocean. What will do you do with it? Put together a survivor's shack? Make a vacation resort? Rise an observation post? That's up to you!
We're going back to the world of the first seasonal event (the sand castles), although your inventory and position have been wiped - we're starting fresh! T ...
They've been coming for a long time, but here they are at least!
First things first, my apologies for the time this took to happen. Right as the contest ended, Mojang released Minecraft 1.9, which required a lot of preparation time to upgrade the servers over. That led us right into April's event, which also needed to be focused on. Finally, a judge unfortunately dropped on me, so I eventually decided to have two instead of three.
Minecraft 1.9.3 1.9.4 was finally released this morning by Mojang after a long-ish development cycle. Unfortunately, it's not compatible with Minecraft 1.9 to 1.9.2; additionally, some plugins will require an update before we can jump over. As such, please make sure to stay with an earlier version to continue playing with us!
I've updated the Help & Contribute page with some key changes. As a starting point, all mentions of "donations", "donate" and similar have been replaced with "contributions", "contribute" and so on. This is done to avoid business and legal issues with Paypal, considering that neither I nor the Creeper's Lab are registered charities anywhere. As many of you already know, any donations monetary contributions sent my way are used by myself to help cover servers costs and fund future d ...
Laurasia was hit by a large griefing wave tonight and had to be partially restored from backups. This only affects the overworld side, and only in specific locations. As the backups used were about 40 hours old, it's possible that some of your builds and items in chests were lost. Personal inventories and enderchest should be fine. Please contact any helper or op and we'll reiumburse your losses.
First things first, I'd like to thank everyone who showed interest in helping. I got more answers than I expected, which is always a good sign for the community as a whole!
Without further delay, I'd like to introduce Primagen and Raegal as Helpers, Coneva and GingeKoda to maintain our Facebook page, plus CaptainVoxel on the Tumblr front! The latter three will get the Media rank as a sign of this. Congratulations to everyone! All of you will be getting a forum message shortly wi ...
The team behind DynMap finally found a workaround for the frozen entities problem that some of you saw during our tests on Nena. I've uploaded the newest version, so you can once again track yourself and others! The maps themselves need to be regenerated to include the latest changes; that's going to run for several hours at least.
FastCraft is back online!
The quick crafting utility makes its return as well, in a newly recoded version. As a remind ...
It has been a while since the last call as many people in the current staff roster have proven to have some serious staying power. I've been working on several additions to hopefully boost the population of the Creeper's Lab, and with the usually busy summer season coming up, I believe that now's the time to grow the staff ranks! This time around, I'm looking for at least or 1 or 2 Helpers, 1 YouTube / Twitch creator and 1 Social Media contact.
Mojang published today the first set of fixes for the current Minecraft version under the 1.9.1 name, quickly followed with 1.9.2 to fix another issue. However, both of these are not compatible with version 1.9 of the server, so be sure not to upgrade for now in order to continue to play with us!
Laurasia's world trim is now complete. Thank you for your patience during this lengthy operation!
The map is currently regenerating, which will take several hours to complete. As we have some disk space to spare, I've used this opportunity to boost the resolution of the 3D map a bit. This allows viewers to see more details in the various structures scattered around the server.
Today I introduce a new world to the players of Miranda that should aide in your quest for building grand things. This world is accessible to certain players who have participated and built things in Miranda, which I'm adding an additional rank as well!
The new rank is "Contractor" and it'll give you (as we've come to call it in Creeper's Lab) Blue Pants. With this rank, you will be whitelisted for the new world to aide in your creat ...
I've been running multiple tests using Minecraft 1.9 since its release, stress-testing the performance of the game, evaluating and updating plugins, that sort of stuff. While some of you have been having fun playing on Nena, our temporary 1.9 server, many are looking forward for the entire network to jump over to the new version.
Unfortunately, there are several issues still happening in multiplayer that are major enough to prevent us from moving forward. Most notably, riding minecar ...
A map trim operation has been scheduled for Laurasia, our biggest world. Unused locations will be removed to lower the size of the world and make it more managable. Additionally, many new players assume that all explored areas on the map are no good for building for various reasons, even though most of the territory is actually untouched.
Various areas have been marked in red on the map. These will be deleted unless you tell me that you have something in a given location that you want to ...
This is it! At long last, the longest wait between major Minecraft versions will be over. If all goes according to plan, Minecraft 1.9 will be released next week, on the 25th. As usual, we won't be updating on the same day, so make sure that you stay with us on 1.8 until we're ready to make the jump. From the launcher, hit the "Edit Profile" button at the bottom left, then set the "Use version" value to release 1.8.9. You'll be able to change it to 1.9 (or whatever the latest ...
February is here, and it's now time for our next seasonal event! We're going to be doing something completely new this time around, too. You're being tasked with designing a parkour course, in creative mode! After the rmonth is over, the best levels will be added to the Games section in a new parkour setting, available to be played at all times by everyone!
For those not familiar with the parkour concept, it involves an area where your goal is to get from point A to point B ...
All maps are now powered by the main web server instead of being attached to each Minecraft server instance, hopefully removing that load from the game. This has the effect of giving us URLs that are much easier to remember! Additionally ...
As previously announced, the Games section is now live!
About the Games section and how it works
The Games section can be easily accessed from anywhere at anytime by using the Lobby. When in-game, type /lobby to access it, then simply walk (or run!) up to the Games section. Various portals found within will bring you to your destination. You can leave the games at any time then travel back to wherever you were in survival gameplay.
There are a few important points to keep in mind: ...
At long last, I'm happy to announce that the achievements system is BACK ONLINE! It's been a long time, so I'll reexplain how it works for the sake of our newer players. You can also find further down some information about how things evolved since the last time this was available.
The achievements system on the Creeper's Lab is a completely separate thing than the ones available in vanilla Minecraft, with different targets. These go from the simple (Tarzan Hates Jungl ...
The middle of December has come and gone, which means that it's getting late for your Christmas shopping! Ha ha ha ha!!
... Wait, wrong line.
The middle of December has come and gone, which also means that half the building time alloted for the Christmas village contest is now behind us. Worry not, though, for there is plenty of time to jump in even if you haven't started yet! Spruce Hills has been expanded a few times already due to the popularity of this event, and more plo ...
Now that we've reached December, it's time to roll a few updates!
New Christmas cards!
The Christmas cards are back for a third year!
For those who don't know, I'm sending for the holidays a real, custom Christmas card in the mail to whoever wants one, anywhere in the world. All you need to do is submit your name and full postal address, including country!
You can two ways to claim yours. Go to Laurasia and visit the seasonal park in the Residential Di ...
December is upon us, and so is the next seasonal event! This time, we're building a Christmas / winter village to celebrate the upcoming holidays!
Many people, kids and adults alike, love seeing these tiny, temporary villages that are placed underneath Christmas trees, in living rooms and in store displays. How about we build a larger version that we can walk through or even inhabit? :-)

Your goal is to create a new building or appropriate location for a new town modele ...
Last night's event, which involved digging down to find as much gold as possible within two hours, was a resounding success! 11 players formed teams to duke it out, while several others joined as observers. Once the time was up, Anonymous_SoFar and Sphenicus emerged as the winners with 411 gold ingots and ore, nearly twice the score of the team in second place! They each earned a set of items that included a mule and a beacon, while everyone kept the spoils of their digs.
I'm introducing today a reorganization of the servers of the Creeper's Lab with the addition of a new lobby!
This will be the starting point of all new players from now on and the transit point between the various servers and activities. These will be separated as follows:
Survival
The portals for the current survival servers (Laurasia, Rodinia and Gondwana) have been moved here from Central's TransHub and are accessible at all times. Reaching each world's exit poi ...
Did this one sneak up on you? The Creeper's Lab is four years old as of today! With still no map reset occurring to this day, some players have been focusing on making bigger and bigger builds while others just create more projects! Beyond simple block breaking and stacking, though, a lot has happened in the past year. This includes the following:
In the past year:
- All servers were moved to dedicated, far more powerful hardware!
- A single, simple server address to memorize was s ...
Update: Before even 24 hours had passed, everyone participating managed to find all of the hidden ladders - with Kagato sealing his win with 17! In light of the quick end to this portion of the event, I decided to reset the ladders; and they've all been found a second time already! This round's winner was primagen102, with 11. I'm giving you guys one FINAL chance, and will reset the ladders this coming Saturday, November 7th. This is your last chance to win one of those zombie ...
Skreelink is offering a bounty in order to fill out the trains hangar and outside location! This is the same location that was used for the trains contest two months ago. A few 40x12 plots have remained available, and he wants to see completed projects on each of them!
To visit this location and possibly build something, from Central, use the overworld Western Line to the desert branch (third stop). Once there, switch to the side line and disembark at the first stop! Alternatively, from N ...
At the request of a few players, I'm adding tonight a new crafting option within the game: FastCraft.
This new plugin provides you with an in-game interface displaying all of the items that can be crafted based on what you currently have in your inventory. This makes it convenient if you have large quantities of items to craft, or if you've forgotten a specific recipe!
For example, in the screenshot above, I can craft many items based on my wood and iron supplies. Cli ...
The main server, Laurasia, is now back online and fully operational. There appears to have been no data losses whatsoever, but please let me know if you notice anything that appears to be out of place.
The Laurasia server has unfortunately suffered some technical issues and will need some love before it can shine again. As some of you know, I'm currently unable to fix it properly, so it will remain offline for a few days. Data loss, if any, should be minimal.
Until then, any connection attempts will instead send you to Rodinia, which you are free to explore and build on. This is temporary until everything else comes back to normal. Thank you for your understanding!
