Well, first off, I\'d like to wish you all a Happy New Year.
Second, I tell you that this year will be special. \"Why?\" you might think. I\'ll tell you why. 1 second. That\'s all. We won\'t have the usual 31,536,000 seconds, but 31,536,001 seconds. Why? By God\'s Almighty B-hind, I don\'t have any idea.
Why is this year one, I ask you, ONE second longer? Because some time-obsessed freak decided it? Because it\'s another plot by the US government to invade our daily lives? Has this been done by aliens to brainwash us in our confusion about why this has been done? Or am I just ranting? Spitting out total useless crap? You tell me.

I heared it\'s because the Earth is slowing down in it\'s orbit around the sun. Over the last so many years (100, I think), it\'s slowed down by one second, they they\'ve added it on to this year.

You\'re just ranting, I guess.

It\'s a correction to fit within the standards of astronomics. New measurements throughout many years have proved that the Earth\'s rotation period is not exactly 24 hours, but very slightly less than that. And since our time standards are dependent to astronomical \"constants\", we\'re obligated to make corrections to fit those.

This is quite intereting (to me). This may accutally change some things even if it is by one second, but what could this lead to?

Yeah, days will be added sometime way after we\'re all dead, and cockaroaches are ruling the Earth. Either them, or Ubisoft.

Neither EA will be ruling by then.

That little second shows how precise the Gregorian Calendar actually is: we only need to add an extra second every few years to keep everything in sync, that\'s really small!

Actually, the extra second has not really anything to do with the Gregorian Calendar, because they apply to different astronomical standards (One for the rotation period of the Earth and the other for the revolution period of the Earth). Though the extra second does affect the year synchronization a little...

Yeah, just like the Butterfly Effect... though that movie wasn\'t really based on that. Or rather, the things he changed were big enough to obviously matter, and not small such as the Butterfly Effect principle is supposed to be.

Awesome... and for those who asked, it\'s just like leap year.

I\'ve heared about the butterfly effect, but can one second really change that much.
