In case you don\'t know Snaking is manipulating the ability to \"Drift Boost\" to have a constant Boost the whole race through.

It\'s like having infinite Nitro that doen\'t blow up your engine.

I say unfair. I can snake but then the game is all about who can jam the left and right buttons with yoshi more. I prefer huging the turns and using items to win rather then ignoring the race track what soever. I actualy beat a staff ghost no snaking this way. Figure 8 Circut Mario is a bastad And I only won by 0:00:344.

I\'ve seen my unfair share of this in Mario Kart DS. It\'s cost me several races, often times by less than a second. Once I was in the lead for the entire race, but the person I was racing pulled one of those just before the finish line and beat me! For awhile I thought the guy had figured out how to hack into the DS WiFi. It\'s just that cheap.

Unfair.

It makes the game, like Arix said, just about mashing left and right with Yoshi + Egg-1 or Dry Bones + Dry Bomber. Makes it less fun.

Take anyone who normally snakes and make them race normally and odds are that they\'ll lose.

I actually managed to beat a snaker last night by raceing normally, though. They managed to lose control and smack into a wall. He kept a slight lead on most places though. I only got lucky with blue shells and clever use of drifts and tight inside turns.

i\'ve never heard about it but thanks for saying and i think it is unfair. you\'ll have a big leap on your opponents and almost nobody can beat you. that\'s not fun that\'s just teasing other people.

People can beat snakers but only by out snaking them. The games not called Mario Snaker DS Its mario Kart so just race like a real man without relying on noob tactics.

If this game was a PC game the ability to constantly boost would be moded out, Like haveing your engine heat up then blow.

I like the patch idea that me and BlueSilver were talking about: If you snake too much your engine blows like you\'re hit by a blue shell minus the area effect.

That would be a good way for snakers to stop.

Aw man, there\'s cheating in MKDS? That sucks..and yes it\'s very unfair.

I wish this \"snaking\" could be done in the old Kart games though.

Snaking in other games would not be cool. I think its like W-Item in FF7 Yea everyone can do it but it takes so much away from the game.

I was quoteing BlueSilver on the PC Mod thing.

Uhhm, what exactly is snaking? I\'ve only been playing Kart since Christmas 1-player. Is it where someone constantly boosts using power slides? I usually only do that on corners. It sounds unfair.

Ya know I don\'t like it. I can do it, but I\'ve never done it online to win a race. All I need is good skill and luige, even if I\'m in 4th place online with the streamliner I can get good items and get back in first easy. No need for tricks when you can race normal and win

snaking exists on any mario kart game where you can perform those power boosts. MK 64 and MK Double Dash could also use the snaking technique aswell. F-Zero GX for the gc also had a snaking type technique to the extent that you could even fly off the tracks with certain machines.

also, i\'m pretty sure that Nintendo would already be aware of snaking since they made the games themselves. and as such, would have removed snaking from the game during the development process.

boosting all over the track still sounds legitimate to me.. there is no where in the manual or online that states that you cannot use power boosts anywhere else but corners

it\'s only fair/unfair when people do or don\'t know how to use it.

personally i use it when i\'m losing :P
but against computers i snake all the way

Now, I don\'t know about you, but wouldn\'t it be really stupid not to use a move/technique that helps you to win? Of course, you might disagree and say: \"HAX!\" and call everyone a CHEATER who does it, but it really doesn\'t change a thing.

Though, if I\'m in a tournament where these techniques are banned, then I\'m not going to use them as that would count as cheating as it\'s against their rules. However, as MKDS doesn\'t have a set of rules, it\'s just Free For All. (In other words, do anything that helps you to win.)

Only one way to find out if it\'s cheating or not is to e-mail Nintendo about it and hear their verdict. But even then, it wouldn\'t stop people from snaking, either learn to snake or form an \"anti-snake\" club via Friend Codes. ^_^

:: Snakes out of this topic and avoids blue shells that gets thrown by angry anti-snakers ::

|EDIT|
And if you can\'t snake, I\'d might suggest staying away from fighting games.

|EDIT 2|
And Hollow, snaking has existed since Mario Kart 64. (Althrough, it\'s pretty hard in that game, IIRC.)

I think it depends on the circumstances of the playing. For example, if I am just playing through the game, I might do it once or twice, but not an awful lot. However, I wouldn\'t if I am playing someone on WiFI unless my opponant does.

I, though I have no idea in HELL how to do it, believe that snaking is very fair. If it was unfair, wouldn\'t you think that they would take it out of the game? Besides, it\'s just a game- your head isn\'t going to explode if you lose.

I used to fly off the track in F-Zero X...man I love that game. I also fly through the tops of tunnels at points, ahaha.

But this \"snaking\"..it\'s just constantly having a boost ready, right? I do that in Double Dash all the time (it\'s quite simple to do in that game it seems), and didn\'t know there was a \"term\" for it. I only use it for Time Trials though, because those staff ghosts can be impossible.

Somehow I get the impression a portion of the anti-snaking crusaders are people who can\'t snake themselves. In an attempt to justify or cover that fact up, they wage this war against it.

That is to say, if they knew how to snake well they wouldn\'t be complaining.

Even the staff ghosts snake. As I think I recall seeing, a Ninty staffer is quoted as saying \"Snaking; learn it or lose it.\"

Well Zal...I\'m not against it personally, since I don\'t have a DS and therefore don\'t care.

But honestly..how fun is a game where you just jam the stick back and forth constantly, and always beat your competition? I did that in Double Dash alot, and was very disappointed.. I WANTED to lose, I wanted the CPU to be difficult so I\'d have to try harder.

But I dunno, I don\'t have a complex or self esteem problem so I don\'t have to win all the time. :P

No, it\'s not just like having a boost ready, it\'s like using the boost every other second...literally.

If any of you played the old Kart games, you know that you could get a power boost by sliding around corners and holding it. The way it worked was that if you held it long enough you would get a mini-turbo. Because of the way it was set up, you could only do this on corners, or going into and out of them without hitting a wall.

Because you get the boost in KartDS by mashing left and right alternately, you can get a boost five six, or twenty times on a strait away without too much trouble.

Now, sure this sounds like something to be used at first. But if that was the case, why even bother with the ability to go strait? Snaking requires you to jitter back and forth through the whole race and make that priority number one to maintain speed.

Now if this was a Nascar game, sure, speed wins. But it\'s a Kart game, in which item management, and clever driving should win. Jabbing the left and right directional pad buttons doesn\'t count as clever in my book. It\'s not cheap either. It\'s just boring.

I don\'t find Snaking FUN. I can do it. Weeee... I win races. But I don\'t like winning races so much as I like racing in them. I like coming up with devious places to put Banana\'s, throwing bomb\'s into oncoming friends, but you can\'t do that while you\'re busy going leftrightleftrightleftrightleftright while taping RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I don\'t care if you call me a n00b, or say that I just don\'t know how to snake, or that the \"Pro\'s of Snaking\" will beat me, I buy game to have fun. That\'s why I don\'t Mime OmniSlash in FFVII. Sure, it\'s funny the first time to rape your enemy to the point of them bleeding from the eye\'s, but there really isn\'t a game to that. I like messing around with Status magic, and using more than one character.

But hey, that\'s just me.
I\'m sure some people would be fine if Egg1 was the only Kart in the game. I\'ll stick with Bowser in the ROB\'s Base. And Luige in the Cucumber...and Yoshi in the Tyrant biznatches.

I agree. Also, if you\'r on WiFi and you are racing against a person for fun snaking could get annoying.

Then again, it is like beating a friend on one of the BN games by using one PA, and it isn\'t exactly bad. (I have had complaints about that, but hey!)

I don\'t feel obligated to snake, I use it as a secret weapon (3rd lap, opponents ahead of me, etc.) When someone else is a snaker though, the only choice I have is to out-snake them.

Well, that is....If I can.

Okay, where does this, \"I you hate snaking, you can\'t do it\" mentality come from? It\'s a simple thing, anyone could do it if they tried, I think. Sure, using it in one player mode is fine (though I beat all but one of the Mirror Grand Prixs without it, I was trying to get ROB (I learned I\'m pretty good with Yoshi, without snaking)), but doing it all the time on WiFi? That\'s annoying.

As HollowTorment said, it can take the challenge out of it, and if a game is too easy, where\'s the fun in playing it? Winning all the time is boring. I quit playing games in which I have almost zero chance of losing as soon as I realize how easy they are. Losing gives you something to look forward to beating. You refine your skills and try again. And if you still lose, you keep working on your technique, until you can beat whatever is so difficult.

Well, that\'s how I feel about this (for the second time).

Snaking, while allowed by Nintendo, is lame and boring like BS said.

While I know how to snake I choose not to because I perfer more of a challenge. I perfer to say \"Yeah! Beat another one with that <insert item here>!\" than \"I hella snaked that n00b!\"

I get sick of \"pwnage.\" I used a heavy armor class in Tribes for a while and mowed people down like crazy. I got sick of 15 min killing sprees though and swicthed to a light-armor, sniper class that goes down in a few shots if I\'m not quick enough.

Challenge > easy win in the fun factor catagory for me.

You raise a good point, Rush, but the sad thing is that people don\'t do that. Most (I\'d say 94%) of all snakers do it constantly through the entire race. It\'s really disconcerning to newbies that wonder the dangerous, cut-throat world of Worldwide.

Winning is fun, but only if you earn it in my opinion. If you use the \"fastest/best\" kart and snake through the whole track, then you know you\'re going to win unless of course there\'s some other nerd out there with the same kart and that can press left and right faster than you can. Then of course if you lose you throw your DS across the room because you\'ve had no losses until now.

How thrilling.
