There were two calls that I think were funny. The holding call that brought the Seahawks back from the 1 yard line and the penalty against Hasslebeck. Those I agree were bullshit calls, but one cannot say that because of the former the Seahawks were robbed of leading 17-14. That\'s not giving the Steelers the proper respect; it\'s possible that they could have held the Seahawks to a field goal. Yes, Alexander is a superb running back and the league MVP, but his play in the Super Bowl was somewhat lacking and Pittsburgh would have known that they\'d give him the ball. Or maybe the Seahawks would have gotten the touchdown. We\'ll simply never know.
Regardless of whether it was a bad call or not, Hasslebeck still screwed up afterwards. Sometimes bad calls happen, but he dug the Seahawks woes even deeper with the interception. There wasn\'t even a Seahawk in the area he threw the ball to. That, along with the two missed field goals and the poor clock management at the end of the first half and game cost the Seahawks. The Seahawks failed to come up big when it mattered and they lost the game. The Seahawks could have had another possible 9-13 points regardless of the calls. Or possibly 15-19 if you consider that it\'s possible they could have scored on the last drive of the first half and the end of the game if they didn\'t manage the play clock so poorly. Again, regardless of the calls, the Seahawks still lost the game for themself.
As for the touchdown that got called back for the Seahawks, that was a good call. You cannot interfere with another player\'s chance to make the play. Had it been the other way around and the defensive player had done that to Jackson, the Seahawks ball would have been placed on the one yard line and nobody would have questioned it. But because it\'s the other way around the refs should just let it go because the Seahawks got the touchdown? Jackson stuck out his arm and pushed off the defender, interfering with the defender\'s ability to try and stop the pass. You cannot do that.
As far as Roethlisberger\'s touchdown, nobody really knows if that should have counted or not, and anybody that says they do is full of crap. The very tip of the ball only had to touch the white line; he did not have to make it into the endzone. It was impossible to tell exactly if the ball had touched the white line even the slightest from the replays, and because of that, they had to follow the rules and stay with the ruling on the field. Did Roethlisberger actually get a touchdown? Nobody will ever know. Did the refs make the right call? Yes, with what they were given.
Seahawks fans need to stop complaining that they had the game stolen from them and grow some class. Yes, the Seahawks lost this year, but instead of complaining over it, you should have faith in them for next season.
And now.. go Patriots in 06/07. ;p
