Teenybopper? I\'ve never heared that word offline. o.0

And besides, it\'s not the music which is being discussed here as such, it is these \"teenyboppers\", as you put it.

(For the record, I can\'t stand emo as a musical style. I CAND STAND Linkin Park. It actually makes me want to walk into a room with them armed with a machette.)

I think Preps and Emos, of sorts, might be insults or generalizations that fly back and forth in some schools where rigid society structures are in place, and there are \"geeks\", \"jocks\", \"preps\", \"goths\", etc. You can\'t call anyone you can\'t confirm to be in grade school \"preps\" exactly, because I think the term comes from \"preparatory school\".
If a prep is at all what I think it is, it can\'t be anything like Wind. o_o

And SR, it\'s probably likely that you have a different definition of \"emo\" than Wind does, if you\'re calling yourself that. Unless the whole pity thing does hang with you, but your style doesn\'t seem to really reflect that.

EDIT: Sorry KS, two part names confuse me. ^_^;

Hey Starfire, I know a lot of emos in real life. Guess what? Most of them fit the damn stereotype exactly. Most of them do cut. But none of them cut to be suicidal. Those who cut all do it because they\'re attention whores.

I think we\'re picking on emos because a lot of them complain about how their life sucks, when it\'s a lot better than most of the rest of the world\'s.

Wow I had no idea that if I was not an Emo kid I was a prep. So in your mind only two groups of people exist, the Emo group(hot topic) and the preps(Abercrombie) Well I must break the mold because Both groups of people piss me off, not in the same way, but they both make me want to stab them in the face with a shard of glass none the less. A mix of everything is the best, be a little goth some times be a dork sometimes, be an asshole sometimes, do it all but don\'t fall off the boat into the stereotypical fads.

I know several emo kids, I even made an attempt to hang out with them when I was in school, but they didn\'t want anything to do with people out side of their Self loathing pity party group. That\'s how every emo I\'ve ever known was. Goth is another story, some of the time, I have a lot of friends that can be called goth, and they are some of the coolest fun loving people I\'ve ever known.

I know some emo kids with names like unloved_life and Life_is_cancer and other crap like that. Now that is the kind of person I\'m talking about, people that tell me things like \" If I die it will not make a difference no one will miss me.\" I\'ve tried to take up for people like that in the past and even tried to tell them that they would be missed by friends, but in the end they just said it for the attention.

Hey I listen to Linkin Park sometimes, but as wind said that\'s not ALL emo kids listen to and that\'s not what every emo kid likes, they just contribute to the problem.

That was Starfire, Heatman, not Kagome_Sakura :P. And AirMan, a tennybopper is a girl from the fifties who wears (stereotypically) poodle skirts, though (non-stereotypically) they can also be wearing bright green, neon colors in their skirts, and listen to the then-equivalent of bands such as Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys.

In other words, the now-equivalent of a teenybopper would be a bubblegum pop fanatic.

Actually, the term "emo" is used for so many different purposes it [*insert random clich here*]s. Some people think it means LPRs, some people think it means something LIKE LPRs, only slightly different, some people call THEMSELVES emo (as Starfire seems to be doing), some people think it means ANYONE who's depressed and cries a lot, some people think it means the last option but they talk about it (not as an LPR/emo as the definition is being in used in this thread, but just that they don't hide it), some people think it means anyone who gets angry over something small (not about being insulted/called emo, but rather, something like "Don't say that to him!"), and some people think it's JUST a style of music. On my other message board it's used without always having negative connotations. Anyone in this category, however (the category being used in this thread, that is), would get aggressive and defensive by being called emo or attacked on it; I doubt they'd call themselves that. Therefore, what Starfire is talking about, I don't really have a fucking clue. Maybe she thinks she's a goth. Or maybe she actually KNOWS the person who had that account. Of course, goths don't listen to Linkin Park as part of "goth genre", including fake ones. Aanyway.

On an on-topic note, I can\'t stand emos/goths. Especially when you chat with them on the net. My experiences with a few are not those that I fondly remember. They try to purposely make you pity them, and when you try to cheer them up they toss you aside and just keep on whining.

Hold the phone, I thought a prep was someone who wears skirts a LOT, talks a LOT, etc. I DO NOT under any figment of the imagination, see Wind as a prep.

I listen to Linkin Park occasionally, but I\'m not emo. I like the way it sounds. SR, just cool it. Am I a punk because I spike my hair? We\'re not stereo-typing, and you just, as said before, proved Winds point. Could you show us that not all emos are as he described, cause it sounds from you that they are. We\'re not going to pity you, either.

Okay, I think we need to get this here topic LOCKED! I can see it is going to lead to lots, and lots of flame (mainly cause I think I started the fire...meh.)
So Doc, am I right?

Yeah I have. You\'re a jerk-off...when ya want to be.

Quote:
Okay Juno, settle down. What I said was that what goths have BECOME is emo. I used to know a \"true goth\" and he was actually a pretty happy and content dude. Just liked his mascara a bit much.

Aye. Most \"Goths\" now a days aren\'t what they use to be.... Sad:( Shoot, most \"Punks\" aren\'t real Punks anymore. Most people who call themselves Punks and Goths are what we, in FL, call Posers.
BTW, sorry about the blood thing... I was already kinda in a bad mood when I read that stuff.

Now then, I ask you this, members of the S.S. CalmWaters: Do you ever stop and think that maybe some of these \"Emos\" have a reason to cut? They may live a life that should be the envy of most anyone on the board...but what they lack is human emotion, maybe from their mother&father, and so they try to get it from someone else--anyone else...everyone else. However, they can\'t fill the whole in their heart where the love of their parents needs to be with any amount of attention.
Some of them may feel that they\'re worthless, so they cut themselves to keep their mind on the pain of the blade going through their flesh, instead of the great pain in their heart.
But, then you have those who aren\'t any of that--Posers. People who fallow the new thing whatever it may be. They pose as someone/something they\'re not.
Maybe the reason you see so many people posing as \"Emos\" and Goths is because there\'s so much pain in the world, and then they (Posers) see all these people dressed in all black, and some of the others just sitting there with a knife wondering if they should end it all... and after a while it catches on for no better reason than (we\'ve all heard it before) \"Everyone else is doing it!\"

I saw on the TV one day, a teenage boy with his fist stuck in his mouth. He had this woman telling everyone what he was saying (cause she could make it out, but no-one else could, due to his fist being in his mouth.) He said something, then the woman said \"Last night my friends said I should try some pott--and I did.\" He said something again, and the woman translated \"And today they said I should try to fit my fist in my mouth, and I did.\"
He said something odd, then she tanslated it \"I\'m an idiot.\"

Everyone who looks at this post, remember: Don\'t fallow the crowd. You may not like where you end up.

Quote:

Followed by cutting.

Of course at the same time, there are orphaned children with AIDS in 3rd-world countries that don\'t cut. Them I feel sorry for.

Emos, no such luck. They whine, they cry, they get pity. And besides, the way most of them cut--across the wrist in the direction of say the thumb to the pinky or vice versa--has never ever been known to kill anyone. Ever. Have I mentioned that it doesn\'t kill? True, cutting the wrist does kill, just not cutting that way. Perhaps I\'m not making this clear at all. Let\'s try some pictures.

Image

^This is how most emo\'s cut. They claim it\'s to try and kill themselves. Guess what? This kind of cutting hasn\'t killed anyone--even without medical attention--in the past 100 years. If they cut this way, they\'re just attention-seeking idiots. Capiche?

Image

^This, on the other hand, will actually kill you. Someone who tries this is seriously messed up, and should get help. If you know someone who cuts like this, get them the help they need.

In any case, the genuine \"emos\" (an oxymoron) They can\'t really be called that though, anyway an emo as described here is the one that whines constantly about the most mundane things in life. Meanwhile \"emo\" as you\'ve defined it is something else entirely from our concept.

And these genuine ones are few and far between believe you me.

GASP, I wouldn\'t have guessed!

It\'s funny though, I used to cut. But I never cut where people could see. I used it as a way to relieve emotional pain at first, but it escalated to a point where I couldn\'t stop.

You know what though? I shouldn\'t be pitied for it. WHY should I be pitied for it in the first place? I was purposely injuring myself. I don\'t get the logic of feeling sorry for someone who\'s stupid enough to cut themselves.

Anyways, oddly enough (and perhaps ironically) I got help from someone at DA about it, and it did take me a while but I stopped. I do get angry at the pathetic little fools who cut themselves just to get attention, and show pictures of it. It\'s the persons wearing long sleeves in summer that you have to worry about.

But, they are not just doing it because \"everyone else is.\" They are also doing it for attention, not to be popular but to have everyone say, \"Your life sucks are you okay I love you.\" But, there are people who just fall into the first group. As for someone who cuts the second way, if it was deep enough and/or they didn\'t want anybody to know about it (emos as in this topic would go around showing it to everybody on purpose), they were \"emo\" as the group at SRO describes it. Not as the group on this board describes it. This group is not actually in that much pain. Unless, of course, it was a fake cut, in which case it makes them more detecab;e then normal \"emos\" because they KNOW the correct way to cut, and still aren\'t doing it. Also, it is entirely possible to have a cut on the wrist which was not intended to kill (or get attention). I have done so myself once or twice. Well, actually, did it once and lied to say it wasn\'t for suicide the second time. It hurts more there.

And not everybody who cuts is suicidal. But mst \"emos\" claim to be.

lol @ Sipder...

Never heard of \'em. Well I\'m sure some do, but I meant in the general, steretypical way. Linkin Park is not exactly a punk rock band, hardcore, heavy metal, or horror-themes. They\'re AlternaRap. The Goth stereotype (real or fake) is harder then that, and if they do listen to alternative they probably listen to it less often and don\'t have many CDs.
