Maybe on the inside.
Hah! Who am I kidding? He's ugly all the way through!
My small idea of what Sigma thinks of the scars.
Crawling in my skin, these wounds they will not heal
Seriously though X gauged them in. Plus, Doc it could be possible that sigma's face survived every fight and they just welded it to his new body every time.
Hey beautiful people, you're better off trying to e-mail me than message me on here.
Actually, before the PSP remake "Maverick Hunter," which changed many storyline events, such as how Sigma got his scars, at what point in time Cain died, etc., the story went like this before X1. Sigma, as the good general of the Maverick Hunters before his "transformation," was sent to stop a "rampaging red Maverick." Obviously, Zero. The two batlled, and the rampaging Zero cut the scars into Sigma's face. After Zero was bested, Sigma broke Zero's helmet, which let the Maverick virus move into Sigma (I say through his cuts) and thus the Sigma Virus was born. I personally believe this story because it explains why the marks remain - the Maverick virus caused them, and Sigma's bodies are all Maverick, so it's just the virus' mark on him. Why he doesn't take them off of his new bodies, well...
he did for X8, when only one real cut was showing.
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
Capcom probably gave him those "scars" or whatever they are just to amuse themselves while watching us debate the hell out of it. O.o You know... they did it just to make us ask that question.
I always assumed that the virus had it's own sentient will, and that it slowly and subtlety corrupted Sigma.
Well, here's my guesses as to how the Sigma bodies came:
X1: Duh, it's his first!
X2: Serges, and maybe the other X-Hunters
X3: Doppler
X4: Either Sigma's virus, after killing Doppler, used his body to make it, or he manipulated reploids like Dragoon and Peacock.
X5:
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
Maybe since Sigma is a Virus, he can collect data and use it to build himself new bodies. As for Sigma's X8 form, you can't have just one of a virus. When you really think about it, it seems like a really crappy way to end Sigma.
Sigma: After tormenting you for the bigillionth time, here I am, my big sexy Viral form! My supposebly "Ultimate" form!
X: ......
Zero:.....
Axl:.....what's a Viral form?
Zero: That's when someone says they're going all out, in which we all assumed he was in past battles.
X: Nope...he seems pretty serious this time.
Zero: You sure?
X: Yeah...he's screwed this time.
It just sounds like any other X game. "Yup, I killed Sigma." So what? That never stopped him from coming back. And I don't believe he's dead for good now.
We already know it isn't the end of Sigma. As you find out in the Zero series,
And the virus was in every one of the new generation reploids.
Sorry X, when you killed him in the palace it was 1 down, 1,546,752 to go!
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
Technically speaking, if Gate hadn't revived Sigma, he'd still be gone. Because in X5 they say that if Sigma was killed, he'd be unable to revive himself because of how thin he's been spread.
So you're saying that they just threw Gate into the storyline to fill in a plothole?
Sounds like something David Anez would do.
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
Gate = at Eurasia.
Eurasia = Sigma's little "Virus Hive"
"Virus Hive" = U get infected.
Infected = Bad.
You see, he was most likely infected by both - Sigma's for being there and Sigma's need for a host, and the Zero Virus for holding the piece of Zero then going all the way to fuse with it. Far as I know, the Zero Virus was simple insanity, even inside Zero. The Sigma Virus itself had clear, conscious thought - to an extent. The thought that led Gate through was rather complex - worthy of a former Maverick Hunter General...
But this isn't about Gate. Plus, the same could be asked about Doppler in X3. This is about Sigma. Let's stick to him.
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
With or without Gate, Sigma would've returned. Gate merely sped up the process.
You know, one would think that whenever eight Maverick signals popped up, X and Zero would automatically assume that Sigma was screwing around on Earth again. So far they'd only have been wrong once, with Gate.
Alia: X!
X: Yes, Alia?
Alia: Eight potential Maverick locations have appeared around the world? ...do you think it's Sigma?
X: Of COURSE not! I killed him, remember?
Alia: But-
Axl: LET'S GO GUN-RAPE SOME MAVERICKS!
Capcom logic. At least it makes you feel smarter.
All it does is make me embarassed by X's stupidity.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Niavity.
Excuuuse me!
*rolls his eyes*

...And it's such a big deal that Zero lost his memory in MMZero, but X forgets Sigma nearly every time...
Go Gate, you rock. You just helped an evil insane warlord get his hands on yet ANOTHER 50-foot battle body. You are the best, man...

Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
Watch this, if there's ever an MMX9 he'll be wielding an Evangelion for his second form. THAT would be an interesting battle.
X: Sigma! Show yourself! It's time to beat you again!
Eva-Sigma: *roars and towers over Maverick Hunter HQ*
X: Oh...
Zero: ... crap!
X, Zero, Axl: RUN!
Edited by RisingDragon on August 26, 2006 at 16:31:41.
Vile: You can't run now! Yaha-hahahahaha! *explosion*
X: Sigma, I'd like to propose a peace treaty-
Zero: I'll go bald too! (don't kill me if that doesn't)
Axl: I'll give you this half of a Pop-Tart I was gonna eat if you don't kill us!
Eva-Sigma: Pop-Tart, you say? Good deal!
Vile: WHAT!?!?!?
Eva-Sigma: It's a breakfast pastry! Can't go wrong with that!
Axl: Here ya go!
Zero: *cuts hair* just to ensure you don't turn back on us...
X: What about the peace treaty?
Eva-Sigma:*chews, swallows* Nothing says peace like blue-raspberry filling, X.
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
All right, so I went looking for the quote to help prove me right, and I did. It takes place, not after defeating Axle Rose as I thought, but after killing Dark Dizzy.
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
You can't un-scatter yourself when you're dead. Admit it, he just needed Gate to give him a little jumpstart. Sort of like they do with those things while yelling "Cleeeaaarr!".
I mean it explains Zombie-Sigma, he didn't have enough virus to be intelligent. After that he just sorta gathered back together and everything went back to square one.
So total victoly was right in X/Zero's hands... but thanks to Gate... well, you see.
And just for the record, have we ever known any reploid to come back from the dead with the exception of Zero and Sigma?
The Mavericks in Xtreme 2. Also Vile in his MkII and MkIII bodies.
...How many reploids do we know that reproduce themselves then?
Mach Jentra: I heard you were dead.
Zero: You know me - never say 'die.'
I don't think any of them. Sigma, I believe, had help with each of his resurrections. The only unaccounted resurrections are X4 and X7, but I'm sure he had help with those too.
Zero can't reproduce himself either. He had help each time as well. X2 was both Cain and Serges. Serges rebuilt him and Cain restored his control chip. In X6, it had to have been Wily. He'd want to rebuild his greatest, most powerful creation, would he not? And in Z1, it was Ciel, using Passy. And technically after Z4 in the form of the Biometal Model Z, as
