For what I see, it looks close to what happened in the two previous games: the characters break away from their trophy form to fight, before returning to that state at the end of a playthrough. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't know what that purplue thing is.

For the record, Masahiro Sakurai (the producer of a game) stated in an interview that he wanted to focus more on the story part of the game for Brawl. Oddly enough, Miyamoto is a bit against it, to the point where he wasn't interested much in the Adventure mode for Melee. Of course, since he's involved only as assist the project, the final decision isn't his.

And about the story thing, Miyamoto needs to cool it. Adventure mode rocked, and Giga Bowser was just as fun to get to as Crazy Hand.

It's entirely possible that the Assault outfit is one of his alternate appearances in the game--look at Peach and Daisy, or Samus' various Power Suit upgrades in Melee.

I hope Fox gets his Assault appearance in SSBB - so many people like to use him, but now he's so... ugly.

But I doubt that will happen. The suit upgrades for Samus and the Daisy appearance of Peach were done with recoloring, maybe slight alterations of the character design. I don't think Nintendo would go as far as build a new look for Fox.

I'd rather them ditch the four control schemes and go for the nuchuk + remote only (seriously, times change) and do things like that - make more interesting alternate suits, more goodies, etc, and smooth out the controls, for Wii only.

Well... I guess I'll announce the latest updates.

Yoshi's a confirmed character, and DK and Pit's stages have been revealed. DK's stage continually moves upwards, sort of like the Ice Climbers stage in Melee, but it doesn't go downwards... I think. Pit's stage, on the other hand, is just really easy to destroy, most of the platforms can be broken, but they regenerate quickly enough.

And finally, a new battle function has been added... you can use people as springs. Jump on them, goomba-style, and launch upwards. And they can be used to perform meteor smashes, too. Fun stuff.

Imagine you being say, Fox, falling to your inevitable death, when your aprtner, being a Kirby/ Jigglipuff races towards you, you jump on them to get back on stage, and then they float back up as well.

next update: Assist Trophy - Knuckle Joe

appears, uses Vulcan Jab (lpt of hits), finishes with Hadouken or Shoryuken -_- (not really, Smash Punch or Rising Break

he just looks strange. in the kirby games he looked better, imo.

DK's Final Smash has been revealed - he just jams on the ol' GCN Bongos. All it does i sup their damage, I guess, maybe paralyze them. But it does have some advantage on scrolling levels.

Advantage on scrolling levels? I think Sakurai meant to imply that using the Final Smash on a scrolling level would result in insta-death, due to the requirement to stand still whilst doing it.

Smirnoff: I think they're saving unlockable character profiles for last. Even if he's been announced, he's still a secret character. Don't want to give away all the secrets before the game's even launched, do you?

If this line of thinking is correct, we can also assume that Wario and Pit are defaults. And Meta Knight's yet to be seen. He HAS been showing up in an awful lot of screenshots, though. He could easily go either way.
