What size tablet do you have? You can tell brand too if you like, and if it's serving its purpose.

Also, how in the world do you use the thing. I know it's not as easy as pointing and clicking. How do you scroll the picture, etc.

It's easier than you think, Hollow. I have a Wacom Graphite tablet, from about 2004.

I believe the actual dimensions are 5x8 inches, but the area of the surface that you move the pen on is smaller than that.

As I said, it's pretty simple. I would assume the tip of the pen is a magnet of some sort, which responds to some sensor inside the tablet and moves the cursor on-screen. The tablet can't sense pen movement if it's more than an inch above the tablet, but otherwise it can. To click, you actually press the pen against the tablet. To move it otherwise without clicking, you just hold it slightly above the surface.

My specific model also has a button on the side which can be assigned to right, left, or middle-click when pressed, and an eraser on the opposite side that works the same way as the foremost side. On certain applications and word processing applications, the eraser side automatically switches the cursor to an eraser. Don't ask me how. x.x

But yes, that's about the extent of my knowledge of my tablet.

I probably have the same model as Metty here: I own a Wacom Graphire 2 tablet, which has a drawing area of 5" x 3.5". It comes with the drawing pen and a standard-looking 3-button mouse, both being wireless as long as you move them over the surface at the tablet. I'm comfortable enough with the duo that I use it as my primary computer pointing device.

To expand a bit on the controls, in order to move the cursor, you simply move the pen a bit over the tablet, so that the movement will be registered in real time. When the pen touches the active area, it's as if you're holding a mouse button. As such, tapping the tablet makes a click, while dragging the pen along the tablet recreates a click and drag. It's pretty much as if you were drawing on paper, really: you move the pencil over the sheet of paper to position it, then you drag it across to do a line.

The mouse itself is more-or-less standard, and you can switch to using that whenever you tire of the pen, or want to do some computer browsing (personally, I often continue to use the pen).

I've been looking at tablets lately, too... I think I might finally break and get one. I tested one out, or something quite similar, and it actually works pretty good... I think I could get used to it. I dunno about Hollow, but I sure find the information here helpful. ^^

I hope you do get a tablet. ;3

I'd love to see you or Hollow do a picture using one!

And to Doc: Close, but no cigar! I actually have a Wacom Graphire 3. But it's cool to know you have nearly the same one.

I have the same thing as Met, I think. Wacom Graphire 3. I always use the mouse for browsing and the pen for drawing, though I guess there are people who use the pen for both. It came with the program I normally use for drawing, procreate Painter Classic.

I'm getting a wittle Graphire 4 in the mail, hence why I made this topic. :)

So, when you touch the tablet with the pen...that would trigger just like a mouse button would? As in, drawing directly on the tablet is just like drawing with a mouse while holding the button? And lifting the pen, and hovering it above the tablet, moves the cursor without the same action of clicking a mouse button?

I think I get it, if that's the correct information.

I have the same tablet as Doc. XD

I need to get a new one though... mine is cracked in the back (Not sure how that happened!) and the pen nub seems a little worn down.

Tablets are very very awesome, but takes a lot to get used to. The only reason why I was able to pick up on using my tablet fairly fast was because I had a tablet and an art program for my Commodore 64. XD I miss Koala paint. :(

I'm getting used to it, but I think it's made for people who hold pencils correctly, my hand hurts.

Anyways Met I've been doing oekakis with it and they're posted on Devart. I'm waiting to see if Doc ever enlarges the canvas size before I attempt the 300th picture.

Thanks you guys for helping me with the tablet. :)
