I've read that he died. Many hints in the game say he died. The way L----e walked all over his dead body says he died.

But there are soooooo many plot holes if that is the case! Look - his data was in every new generation reploid, so the Sigma you fought at the palace could be one of thousands. The fact that Lumine went Maverick after Sigma's defeat shows that the virus - Sigma - is still alive!

Opinions please! :)

Capcom SAYS Sigma's dead, but I call bulls*** on that one due to the plot holes you mentioned. Also, it's mentioned in MMZ1 or MMZ2 that X was the one who finally offed Sigma.

You can't kill Sigma so easily. Especially not in the prissy way Lumine did. Sigma is alive, pure and simple.

What should be noted, is that X2+ is currently in a canon limbo. Inafune, if you'll recall, has taken back the X series and is remaking each game with the story as he meant it to be. So this newly established canon is the one that should probably be picked at, but first we'll have to wait until he's finished with it. I'm not sure if he'll go past X5, since that's where it was supposed to end.

So take X8 with a grain of salt.

Exactly.
Spoiler (click to toggle)
At the very end didn't it say someone restarted the copychip production systems? I wonder if it was Vile, whose end-of-game whereabouts are unknown.

But the greatest thing about this is that:
Spoiler (click to toggle)
Sigma technically won this time. Even Lumine was a reploid born of Sigma's Jakob Project and he himself had Sigma's data inside of him, and Sigma's data is surviving in the new generation repliods, who sure as heck are bent on continuing the work of the war. And now that that data is inside of Axl, even a hunter has a high chance of seriously going Maverick...

Plus the fact that MMZ games claim that X killed off Sigma with the Mother Elf.

That's true. Though at first I always thought Lumine was pulling Sigma's strings and not the other way around, but I can see how you're wrong.

But even if Sigma won that round, he lost the war. X finished him off with the Dark Elf... then again, that gave Weil a chance to take over... but like you said to my earlier post, Sigma could've been pulling the strings too.

But I think Vile got killed again in X8, up on the Moon.

The Dark Elf is where my theory goes all-over insane. Yes, Sigma was pulling Lumine's strings - if it weren't for Sigma, Lumine wouldn't have even existed, and his wole "Mavericks by will" thing is obviously junk - Maverick means insanity's taken over your free will and better judgement. So Sigma wins there. Of course Sigma's gonna lose the war - he's the villain! Of course, now that cheap-shot Lumine put Sigma's data within Axl, who knows what could happen? Now, as for the Mother Elf (It wan't "Dark" until the curse was put on it) - you can say anything about this insane theory. The "curse" within the Mother Elf - remnants of the Sigma Virus that Weil later amplified to aid his cause against humanity, and the crimes of bolstering the Maverick virus were what got him sent out of Neo Arcadia. Of course, Weil lives in a corruptable robotic body, and exposure to the Virus began to take effect on the sanity (if any) of his cause. X then used his own body to finally seal the Elf and whatever remains of Sigma within Neo Arcadia's core. The Virus itself is what caused Elpizo to instantly go Maverick - the union of Crea and Prea wekened the seal, and the Virus leaked. When elpizo finally got the Dark Elf, he became totally insane and power-hungry - obvious reason now. Weil, having been corrupted himself, brought back Omega and used the Dark Elf to amplify it. Still, some sanity was seen in Weil, as he was able to control himself. That all changed when the curse was lifted - the Virus had to go somewhere - so, it went to Weil, who was already housing it. That's why he lost all control of himself in Zero 4's ending.
Spoiler (click to toggle)
I'm not sure if the Virus died with Ragnarok or not. It could just be a possible leak, which would explain there being Irregulars in the time of ZX. Also, I don't think Zero and X are dead yet. In X3, X himself said he knew he would "one day have to kill Zero." So maybe the Virus retreated to Zero, its original home way back in the day before X1, and X would have to return to save Earth just one more time, this time again with the Mother Elf, to take out both Zero and the still-surviving Sigma Virus.

Just another of my c-r-a-z-y theories.

That's a pretty narrow definition of Maverick. Plus it only applies to about a third of Mavericks.

And isn't it also revealed that Reploids with copy chips are immune to the virus?

And X's prediction was supposed to foreshadow X5. But then Capcom stopped caring about what Inafune wanted and made another 3 games--and one side game.

My description did not apply to all Mavericks - I should have been more specific. It applies to those Mavericks who were made Maveric by way of the Virus. Thanks for catching me there.

The prediction having to go with X5? It makes no sense, seeing as

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Sigma was the one who killed Zero, and X was supposed to oust Sigma with the Mother Elf.

No offense to Inafune, but he should just leave the story be. Just because it isn't the way he planned does not mean it's no good. Actually, stopping at X5 would've left the characters very undeveloped, and the ending described in MMZ would STILL never have happened.

But anyway - back on topic. Sigma's not dead. Inafune and Capcom can't do anything about it. The story's out there. Remaking it is a mistake - it shows how selfish you can be - now people won't know what to believe, because Inafune's sticking his personal ideas out against those that are widespread by now and that he could've influenced himself but didn't.

In X8, Sigma's true form was the manifestation of his Virus, his Viral Form.

This one:

Of course, that doesn't mean by defeating him his virus still isn't running amongst. I'd have to say, Capcom needed a new last boss, because they think that the X Series needs to be more exspansive because of it's more serious story.

I think Sigma will keep coming back. He's too good a bad guy to leave out. He doesn't always need to be the main bad guy, but having him present just makes the X Series that much more sweeter. I can't imagine the X Series without Sigma. His very exsistence is what makes most of the Reploids go Maverick, also, the fact he's good at persuading others to follow his plans, in which he's merely using them to carry out his own plan, this turns most important neutral Reploid guys into bad guys. Even though, a Maverick is simply a malfunctioning Repliod, Sigma or no Sigma.

Wasn't the prediction only that they'd have to fight each other?

I dunno, if I was the creator and Capcom told me that they were going to take my series and destroy the plot I had in mind... I wouldn't stand for it. Tell me how X5 -> Zero doesn't work?

He couldn't. Capcom essentially told him to go fuck himself and they did their own thing.

And yeah, Inafune sure is selfish for wanting his series to have the story he wanted from the beginning.

That pic was from Wikipedia, wasn't it? That's where I found it - nothing wrong with that.
I agree. A secret stage with a backscene plot of Sigma's will suffice - he doesn't need to be the main bad guy - but thank heaven Lumine died. I wouldn't be able to stand that hairdoo again. Ever. :P

Well, as for X5 going straight to Zero...

Well, in the normal X ending, with Zero not going Maverick,

Spoiler (click to toggle)
X inherits Zero's Z-Saber. At the start of Zero, when fighting the Golem, X gives Zero the Z-saber, which is now upgraded with his own X-Buster technology. Also, Zero's body was heavily damaged by Sigma in ANY of the endings, and so was Zero's body at the start of Zero.

However, if the X series had ended with X5, the storyline would've gone a different way.
Spoiler (click to toggle)
Omega wouldn't be using Zero's body, as Zero would still have his original body... well, what's left of it. Hell, Omega might not even exist in the first place, had the X series ended with X5.

I think that the first Zero game was how Inafune WANTED his storyline to go, but because X6 came out before Zero could, and thus continued the storyline, he'd have to change his storyline to make it work, per Capcom's orders or not. (Don't critize me about Capcom, I don't know if Capcom ordered it or not and I frankly don't care.)

You realize that Zero woke up in a research laboratory that looked like it had been hit by a couple hundred missles, right? Somehow I think that he would have been in bad condition no matter what.

Yeah, I call "bullshit" on that one. He was blown up completely in X5, it is not hard to assume that he could have been rebuilt in a copy body and and have awoken 100 years later.

If Zero was completely blown apart in X5, he wouldn't have had his little soliliquoy. He wouldn't have said it because he'd have NOTHING TO speak WITH.

After Sigma's destruction, he had a head, upper torso, and his buster arm left. That'd be more than enough to repair the original body with.

Also, I hope you realize I'm just stating all this as if X5 would've been the ending. It's called a plausibility, I'm quite aware that there still could've been an Omega, that's why there was a MIGHT included in that.

Well, we have Rebirth (or as I know it now - "Rockman of the Meteor Shower) to hope for Sigma to make an appearance, so let's keep praying.

Capcom is notorious for making characters that look/sound like girls. Everyone thought Zero was a girl in X1, X sounded like a girl in X4, Lumine looks AND sounds like a girl in X8, Harpuia sounds like a girl, Elpizo kinda dresses like one... does it really surprise you?

Heck, Elpizo ACTED like a girl. Lumine has his own reserved gender, at least I think so. Zero's a guy - the hair mislead me when I first saw him also. I agree with all of that. But again, this is about Sigma, not the girly-guys.

I believe that Sigma should come back maybe as a secret boss or some thing....I dunno. It would be nice to keep him as the main villain but they will most likly not do that my guess the final boss for X9 will be Axl sence when you beat Lumine with Axl at the ending movie you see him glow slightly so that probably suggests with the information in X8 that Axl will most likly turn Maverick.

Well, apparently Omega is a secret boss in ZX, so you never know. Maybe we will fight Sigma in another game after X8.

He'd also probably be a boss for at least one game if Capcom goes and makes a Rockman Axl series.

I'm surprised that X wasn't suspicious that Lumine's minions were using a form of Sigma's body that he'd never seen before in the beginning of the X8 game.

But I guess it's cuz X is naive like Sigma said he is in X4.
