Technically, X has fought many, many different Sigma forms by that point. Unless there was something immediately jarring about it, I doubt it would surprise him that Sigma was using a new one.

Oh, I know that. He'd fought a bunch of them. But when he saw the NG Reploids using that Sigma body, it wasn't one he would've recognized as one he'd faced before, and so he should've known that Sigma was back in action again. But he didn't, he only started suspecting when Vile Mk III attacked him, Zero, and Axl at Point Galopagos.

Maybe he'd just figured that it was one that he couldn't recall. I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd lost track of a few of the Sigma forms.

Except X is a robot. His memory wouldn't be able to fade like a human's, he should be able to remember exactly everything that's happened to him--including battles with Sigma forms.

Depending on what X4's canon story is, X may or may not have been present at that battle--same for X5 and X6--He could have assumed that the Sigma body was from one of those.

Oooh! I came up with an argument! Even though its late. XP

If X didn't battle Sigma in those, Zero would've. And Zero would've been debriefed about the encounter, and memory may have been downloaded into the computer. And seeing how X is when it comes to Sigma, he would've made sure he went over it.

As for debriefing times, they'd happen after X4,

Spoiler (click to toggle)
after Zero returned to Earth from Final Weapon's destruction,

And either during or after X6, after
Spoiler (click to toggle)
Zero returns after X destroys Nightmare Zero. Zero might not remember who rebuilt him, but Zero certainly would've remembered destroying Sigma.

Actually, if that were so, Sigma's X8 body would be inside Axl's, will corrupt it, and in the end, Axl was taken over by it. Guys, Sigma IS Lumine - they say he went Maverick in the end. How else to go Maverick if Sigma didn't infect you? Plus, the timing shows that as Sigma was blown up, he needed another body to occupy...

ALERT! ALERT! SUPER-EXTREME IRONY AHEAD!

OMG, how did I not realize this before?
When Sigma stepped on Zero's helmet he got the Virus and thus went Maverick.
History repeats itself as (dang! I didn't realize this yet?) Lumine walks over Sigma's dead body, andhis going Maverick ensues. The exact same thing. The Virus lives on.

well time wise that would not make sence because the Battle Network series occurs in 20XX while the X series occures in 21XX which is obviously later, and wouldn't Megaman die if Hub died if Hub died because arent they connected or something? o well it still made me laugh and Sigma will NEVER DIE!!!!! he's too good of a villain too kill off....
but you know Capcom next X game they'll cut Sigma out of the North American Version......

Sating IF all of those impossibilities I stated were true Sigma would be an old git by the time that rolled around. He'd be like more like "eh......you look.....er......whats that dang word again.......Hey look prune juice!"

By the time that rolled around? Hell, he'd have to go so far into the future that he ended up in the past, considering that BN takes place 100 years earlier in an alternate timeline.

That must be one helluva warranty.

"Zero! And... hey, you're not X! What's your name? MegaMan? Nice to meet you! I'm Sigma! My job is to blow off your head and dominate all of the universe. Glad we could meet! Down to business, eh?"

Those are what I'd see him saying.

Actually, we're not, as we are disscussing what COULD happen if Sigma lives on - the topic. The joke half of it, well...

Oh yeah, you know, "xx" could stand for undreds of years, like how 22xx is the 22nd century, but it also could work like BC or BCE, meaning the higher numbers come first. Whatever event that would lead to is beyond me. And also, if "xx" did work like AD, and the humans advanced from simple programs to big, clunky robots, something is very, very wrong...

Actually, look at it this way:

Is Wily EVER jailed for sure?
Is Sephy EVER gone for good?
Is Pokey EVER going to stop bugging people?

Okay, now think about this: Is Sigma EVER going to be firmly dead?

You can bet on Dracula's coffin that he isn't.

Having just finished my first play through X8 today, I'm ready to jump in!

Personally, I think that Sigma might very well be gone for good, in his current form at least. He was on the Moon instead of the usual Eart, surrounded by copies of himself, and sure as heck didn't look in great shape. His look is even worse than in X6, although he can use that new body much better. The fact that his broken body was put on display during the first fight against Lumine, instead of being hidden somewhere, should mean something too.. Finally, the first trailer released before X8's release had Lumine saying, and I quote: "Congrats on defeating Sigma. I really can't say how many times this makes it, but rest assured: he isn't coming back." I dare hope that, if a Mega Man X9 is produced, it will try to move on with the plot without involving Sigma directly.

Besides, half the fun is hoping that he's gone for real so you can be surprised by his return in the sequel... ;)

If I called Lumine a "she" in this post, I can't be blamed. Girly voice, girly look, girly behavior...
