Recently got Chronicals and finished Final Fantasy 4. Moved on to Chrono Trigger and been playing it since. Started two days ago and now I am stuck. I just went to the prehistoric time and I made the mistake of bringing Lucca instead of Marle with me to fight the reptiles. What I want to know is where can I find Marle so I can switch party members? I have looked all over and am quite stumped.

While we're on the topic, what do you think of Chrono Trigger? Like it better than Chrono Cross? I personally like Cross better at the moment because of all the different party members you can find along the way (I think it was like 30+) So yeah give your opinion.

There's a button to press that lets you switch party members out of battle. Alternately, go back to the End of Time.

Haven't played Chrono Cross, but Trigger is still damn good. I balk at 40+ possible party members in Cross and I'm dissatisfied with the fates of some of the original crew.

I can't honestly say I prefer Cross to Trigger because I am still so early in the game with Trigger and I don't think I ever got around to finishing Cross. But so far it is proving to be a really good game. And thanks for the tip.

Oh, you'll just love it when you fight the bigger bosses and get massive slowdown. Damn Square and their crap port.

I certainly don't like Cross and here's why:

There are what, 40 characters? And only two get any solid backstory.

The ending is wrapped up in 8 paragraphs.

The ending just flat out sucks

The game wasn't truly finished, they didn't have enough time.

I read an interview, I think with Masato Kato, and he said they just kept making the "cool" NPCs playable characters, leading to the mass worthless character additions.

The character designer kinda sucked. His sketches were alright, but he uglied up the characters with bad coloring.

But of course, there are good things about Cross. The music, gotta love Mitsuda. The graphics were impressive for the PSX. Some of the characters were pretty lively. The references to Trigger were great, even though they were few and far between. Probably if it wasn't rushed, and they took out 25 or more characters, I'd actually enjoy the game. As..Horii I believe, said, Cross is not meant to be Chrono Trigger 2.

It's a shame that the Playstation version didn't get more love from Square, it would have been a fun one to own with all the potential for minor updates here and there.

I personally found Chrono Trigger to be very boring. I don't rmember where I last was....some really big kingdom on a mountain with a waterfall? I made it there, and I finally had to stop. I couldn't take it anymore. Maybe I didn't give it a chance to kick in.

I know Chronicles can be bought very close to me, if I ever decided to give it a second try. The anime cutscenes in the PSX version we're sweet but the loading time was dimed down.

If I ever decided to take another shot at this game, it would have to be for a much better reason than I had started out with. Because I had heard good things. Maybe I had yet to run into them in my first playthrough.

Yeah. Just visually, there's nothing really special about them otherwise. I don't recall them having to do anything especially significant or relavant to the story. None of the characters had voices, which was to be much expected for it's time. They were more like action sequences, that's it.

I'd still prefer the SNES version, if anything.

The SNES was a greater console than the PS. I think all who hate the game in PS form should try the SNES form. (By the by, best party for healing is Crono, Marle, and Robo. Without the Lifeline triple tech, you can't kill the 6-Nu battle.) Overall, I like Frog, Crono, and Lucca.

Wha? Of course you can kill the 6 Nu's without Lifeline... I always use Ayla, Crono, and either Marle or Frog with that one. Because..Nu's either hit out all but 1 of your health, or 1 health. So..it's not like you need extensive healing. You can just use Frog's Heal, and the team will certainly survive long enough with that, to kill them all. Unless you have a really weak team, that is. Or Frog is incredibly slow.

And yes, anyone who's just played the PS version should really try the SNES version if they can. The PS version is an abomination.

My best team is always Crono, Ayla, and Marle. I killed Lavos my first time with 30 or so Cube Toss'..ah, memories.

It is ridiculously bad. The cinemas were pointless and the slowdown ruined the gameplay.

It was a damn PORT, and Square still messed it up.

Edit: The PS version had two redeeming things..the two new songs Mitsuda made. ;P

"I'm dissatisfied with the fates of some of the original crew."

That is one of my main reasons for decanonizing Chrono Cross. Many people don't agree with me on this, but I'm doing this partly because I feel like it and partly because I'm mocking IGA's decanonization of certain Castlevania games he didn't like.

As for Trigger, I think it ranks as one of the greatest RPGs ever made, along with masterpieces like FFVI and Super Mario RPG. The soundtrack, the gameplay, and the plot (which, despite involving time travel actually DOESN'T suck) all come together to make it one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

"It's a shame that the Playstation version didn't get more love from Square, it would have been a fun one to own with all the potential for minor updates here and there."

I assume by this you mean that it's basically a complete, unrevised port (apart from useless anime cutscenes) of the original game? I think it's fine, although a few touches here and there (such as how CvSotN uses 3D effects despite its being a 2D game) would be nice. Although the game it pretty much a masterpiece as is already.

"Although, Wind said theres ganna be a 3rd game muhahaha! Chrono Paradox!"

Actually, the sequel to CT isn't Cross but is a little Super Famicom game called "Radical Dreamers". I don't know much about it, but I think it involves at least one CT character and at least one CC character. It might also serve as a nice bridge between the two games for people who don't see how they connect (but I don't even know CC myself either).

As for a fourth game in the series, I've only heard of "Chrono Break", but somehow I seem to remember hearing that it may have been cancelled or something...or was it another game...

"Well, unless you count Squenix's "we have no plans to make a sequel at this time.""

Well, I was hoping that Square would "have no plans to make a sequel" for CT itself. The story ended with definitiveness, and there wasn't really anything to open up a new plot except the one thing that Square decided to use to open up a new plot. However, much of that new plot is disagreeable in my opinion, AND they made something out of a story that should just have finished right then and there.

I currently hold a refusal to play CC on that basis. (Not like I have a PS or a CC disc anyway...)

Oh, and I still think anime cutscenes are useless. Give me sprite-based cutscenes and I will be awesomely delighted.

And my favorite characters are Lucca, Frog, and Magus, and I think Spire is the coolest attack in the game.

Radical Dreamers doesn't really count. It never came to the US, and it was scrapped because the Bantai-Stellaview system went down the drain. So it's not like they could have finished the original job.

And as far as not needing a sequel, CC did a pretty good job. You're missing out on a good experience by not playing it.

Mario RPG...masterpiece...HAHAHAHAHAHA

Also, I have an urge to buy CC because alot of HARDKORE LEET CT FANBUOYS hate it.

Radical Dreamers counts..do you know why? Because, of course it's the basis for CC. So you can't dismiss one and not the other. CC is just a revised version of Radical. Without Magil/Magus because of Toriyama issues.

Radical has Kid from CC and Magus from CT..Schala is Kid, Magus follows her around, blah blah. It's a boring text based adventure that I don't care for but I played anyways. It wasn't unfinished but Horii (I think it was him, maybe Kato) admitted that he didn't like the storylines at all and considered the game "an embarassment" which prevented its release on the PSX Chronicles disc.

Edit: I cannot resist. I'd get banned for taking CT's name in vain on the Compendium.

You forgot the characters, they were great too. And well, no matter what, the plot wasn't confusing unless you..think too hard about it.

If Squenix would have messed with the game like that, it wouldn't have sold to me, lawlz. Just kidding, I would have bought it anyways, regardless of the ugly polygon distortion that sticks out like a sore thumb and doesn't belong.

Quote:

I agree with not having a sequel to CT, BUT I do wish that CT would become a "series" just like it's big brothers Dragonquest and FF. Course, that will never happen, but it would be great to have a time travelling RPG series with Lavos and references to Reptites...

Quote:

Seriously, I need to buy CC now. Walmart has it for only 14 bucks.

Quote:

Yeah because sprite-based cutscenes would have worked on an agonizingly slow PSX port which can't seem to handle more than 6 sprites on screen at once. Plus, Square needed to SELL the game. Ancient sprites from 1995 don't sell games now, anime cutscenes do. Just look at X4, that game is complete crap but everyone orgasms over the shoddy anime.

I prefer Crono, Marle, and Frog, although I'm doing a new game plus right now and don't have Magus yet. This is because they have an awesome double tech that heals your whole party to full, and a triple tech that hits for about 3200 on Lavos final form, at level 50, without prismspecs.
