Yes, he did both.

And I have to agree. I consider Chrono Cross' soundtrack to be one of the best in any game I've ever played.

Cross' soundtrack, better? Knife...knife in my heart!

Actually I think the instrumentation of course is better for Cross..but the melodies are better in Trigger. If only they'd do an orchestrated version of Trigger's soundtrack...

Cross had a very..mellow take to it, it didn't have too many bold tracks, but perhaps Mitsuda was trying to stay with the Radical Dreamers theme. Radical had very subtle music.

But well...again, I bought Cross' soundtrack and not the game, so I guess that's saying something.

Now I've got to listen to Memories of Green..hahaha.

There was nothing mellow about the intro movie's theme song for Cross once you got into it. O.o

I'm just gonna say that Cross' soundtrack is better cuz I've yet to break into my copy of Trigger. Heh.

But that's just one song. There's definitely not alot of bold music in Cross. Except the old themes they remixed from Trigger, naturally. And of course..Isle of the Damned was pretty spooky and different.

Seconded. It fit the mood of the game quite well! I also like the Frozen Flame theme, along with the Dragon God battle.

Ah, the finer elements of Square's games can be debated longer than the game elements themselves. I like Trigger's music for when you fight a decisive battle, such as a against the Rust Tyrano.

Yeah, that's an awesome song Magiman.

I don't remember the Cross map themes offhand..but my favorite songs were the Dead Sea, and uh..when you meet with a Dragon God, and when you're sailing in the boat..? I think. I can't remember.

I changed my mind about Chrono Trigger. It's a very good game for it's time and has much replay value. Even measured by today's standards, it's a good game and is always worth going back to. The music is quite good too. I bought Final Fantasy Chronicles so I could play CT and Final Fantasy IV.

The reason I disliked it was because I knew nothing of the New Game + Mode, which offers some very high replay value. I thought it was just another typical classic RPG, but despite it's short game length, it has much to offer and the story concept is definitely intriguing.

There are a few tedious parts of the game, like re-collecting all the pieces of the Masamune when playing New Game + and getting the Epoch again. Even those are story based items, it still sucks having Frog without his Ultimate Weapon when you replay the game.

I do have a question, does the original Chrono Trigger keep a record of all the endings you've obtained?

As for Blue Dragon, it does seem pretty cool. I think some of the key makers of not only Chrono Trigger, but also of Final Fantasy are participating in its' development. Looks kind of kiddie-oriented, but what can you do?

I loved Chrono Trigger.
Such memories. I was really happy when they released it for Playstation later on as well.
Arkane, AFAIK, i don't think the original allowed NewGame+'s.
But, it's been awhile so, memory is rusty.

I'm not even going to get into how much I love the whole CT trilogy...

So Blue Dragon comes to the rest of the world soon. From what I heard, the Japanese launch might as well have been 360 launch day, as most copies sold were bundled with consoles. It's also the only game for 360 that I'm interested in playing, so I'm really torn about whether to buy one or not. I was going to, but instead of the price drop I've been hearing about for so long, they're launching that uber-rig version for a higher price. /cry

Considering that it's really a spiritual successor to CT, I'm gonna end up playing it someday. I know that Sakaguchi and Toriyama worked on it, but what about the other defining members? Did Hori or Mitsuda do any work on it?

Uematsu was the composer, therefore taking Mitsuda out of the mix.

Sakaguchi was indeed there but...I think his storylines suck.

Toriyama is character designer. But he is for DQ too so..

A ship making purple clouds with the characters swallowing orbs to make their shadows become monsters? See yeah, Sakaguchi's on something and it's not good.

Personally, if it had Horii there and Mitsuda I'd even consider buying a 360. But without Horii the storyline suffers (in my opinion of course).

So, ehhhh...how about everyone's recommended equipment and favorite party? My party is usually Crono, Marle and Lucca. I switch to Magus from Lucca when he becomes available.

Mine is:

Crono Lvl 98
Weapon: Rainbow
Helm: Haste Helm
Armor: Nova Armor
Accessory: Prism Specs

Marle Lvl 96
Weapon: Valkerye
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Prism Specs

Lucca Lvl 91
Weapon:Wonder Shot
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Gold Stud

Magus Lvl 86
Weapon: Doom Sickle
Helm: Gloom Helm
Armor: Gloom Cape
Accessory: Gold Stud

Ayla Lvl 96
Weapon: Bronze Fist
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Frenzy Band

Frog Lvl 89
Weapon: Masamune II
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Hero Medal

Robo Lvl 89
Weapon: Terra Arm
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Prism Specs

BTW, is there a way to get Crono's attack power at 255, and not 254? Hope I didn't screw anything up....

OH, MY TURN! (oh, and no..I haven't personally gotten Crono's attack to 255..dunno what that's about)

Crono
Weapon: Rainbow
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Gold Stud

Marle
Weapon: Valkerye
Helm: Safe Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Gold Stud

Lucca
Weapon:Wonder Shot
Helm: Prism
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Gold Stud

Magus
Weapon: Doom Sickle
Helm: Gloom Helm
Armor: Gloom Cape
Accessory: Gold Stud

Ayla
Weapon: Iron Fist
Helm: Prism
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Charm Top

Frog
Weapon: Masamune II
Helm: Prism
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Hero Medal

Robo
Weapon: Crisis Arm
Helm: Prism or Haste
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Gold Stud

..yeah I just put studs on everybody, good ol MP conservation. After a while you don't really need accessories... No need for strike up/magic up and etc. So I just put the studs on. Stealing Prism Dresses and Helms from Queen Zeal = good.

My favorite team is always Crono, Marle, and Ayla. But they got me through the game first so it's a sentimental thing, hahahaha. Otherwise it's Ayla and..whoever. Always have Ayla on my team as frequently as possible.

Mmm. Lemme see if I remember mine...

Crono
Weapon: Shiva Edge
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Prism Specs

Marle
Weapon: Valkerye
Helm: Haste Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Gold Stud

Lucca
Weapon: Graedus(Oh, darn me and my emulator.)
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: Prism Dress
Accessory: Relic (Darn me again.)

Magus
Weapon: Doom Sickle
Helm: Gloom Helm
Armor: Gloom Cape
Accessory: The 50% counterattack Band

Ayla
Weapon: Iron Fist
Helm: Prism Helm
Armor: The lightning absorb thing (White Vest?)
Accessory: 75% counterattack band

Frog
Weapon: Masamune II
Helm: Haste Helm
Armor: Moon Armor
Accessory: Sun Shades

Robo
Weapon: Terra Arm
Helm: Safe Helm
Armor: Red Vest
Accessory: Gold Stud

I did not feel like playing through enough times to steal as many Prism Dresses as were needed for the whole party, although I did use the emulator to obtain the weapons/accessories taken out of the game. I prefer Crono, Marle, and Frog, because they have epic healing power and an awesome Triple Tech attack. That and Haste capabilities.

OH, OH, I'd like to know the descriptions of the items taken out, Magicman!

I'm so glad I got my hands on the SNES version. Now it won't take a half hour to level up. As for getting in and out of the menu on the PS1 version, ugh, that was just god awful and inexcusable. I still play Chronicles for Final Fantasy IV.

I've been recently leaning towards the usage of magic. Physical attacks only go so far in the game (except in Ayla's case...). So, Gold Studs all the way!

Finally, I'm sure everyone has a different strategy for Lavos.

Mine is as follows:

Crono, Marle and Magus.

Equipping Crono with FrenzyBand counters almost ANYTHING, including Time Warp on the third battle, which isn't even an attack. (Strangely, in the PS1 version, Crono would lose 1 HP every time Lavos used this.)

Marle is the healing bitch, as usual, plus it doesn't hurt to Haste everyone.

Once the Left Core is taken out, I have Magus hammer the Middle and Right Cores with Dark Matter with Gold Stud equipped.

In the previous battle, I'd usually just have Magus use Dark Matter on all the targets, while Crono pelts the middle. Marle, Cure, Haste. 'Nuff said there.

The first battle well...do whatever you want.

Hey, hey, watch your language! That's not really necessary. Try to use a different term.

Now that that's said and done... Note that all these Items were avaliable in the Japanese version of the game, but were simply made not avaliable in the Amercian version.
DarkSaber: A sword. Attack Strength 50, Sell for 4350 Gold. This may accidentally or purposefully have been taken out of the game by placing a treasure chest at the foot of the cliff you arrive in during 650000000 BC onto a background layer instead of the foreground. (You can see it if you remove one of the background layers using an emulator. Sitting there plain as day.
PicoMagnum: A cool gun, if I say so myself. Attack 20. Sell for 900 Gold.
SeraphSong: An accessory that restores 10MP every few seconds. Awesome. Simply awesome.
Graedus: A gun. Attack 60. May reduce enemy's HP by half instead of damaging them normally. Sell for 6000 Gold.
Relic: Accessory that allows you to see your opponent's HP totals. WooHoo.

I can understand why they took SeraphSong and the Graedus out (too good!), and the Scope thingy made the Relic unneccessary. But the DarkSaber and the PicoMagnum were probably just taken out because they made the game too easy at the point they were located accidentally.

I've been using Ayla more frequently now. Can't wait for that Bronze Fist...9999 damage on critical! Boo ya!

I put PrismSpecs on Crono (he does around 500 more damage with his Rainbow Sword when it hits critical) plus, an additional 200 damage for every hit using Confuse. (around 2800-3000 damage total as oppose to 2000-2200)

Ayla gets FrenzyBand. She'll be unstoppable when she gets the Bronze Fist. Her high Evade and Stamina make her a top notch fighter, no doubt.

I gave a PrismSpecs to Marle. Why? Because it increases her curing potency, her ice magic, and her main attack. Frankly, none of her spells really cost that much MP to deserve a GoldStud. Once her Magic is above 60, she usually heals 999 even with her regular Cure spell for 2 MP, making Cure 2 relatively pointless, unless you like wasting 3 additional MP per cast. Life 2 is rarely ever used and in most cases, Crono's Life spell does the trick fine, healing someone at 600+ HP if his Magic is high.

I've updated my equipment post above.

I know I sound like a n00b but what do the Specs even DO?

Arkane

They increase physical damage and magical damage by 50%.

I also think that it applies to Tech Combinations as well. If this is so, equipping these to multiple characters to a certain party that can use a good Triple Tech, or even Double Tech, piles onto the total damage from each individual character.

So, imagine I'm doing a Triple Tech. Crono adds 1000 damage to it, Marle adds 500 and Ayla does 1000 for a total of 2500 Damage. With PrismSpecs equipped to each character, it would be Crono doing 1500 damage, Marle doing 1000 damage and Ayla doing 1500 for a total of 4000 damage! WHOA!!

Don't forget about enemy's defense totals though. Some may vary.

Even though I did so many playthroughs that all my characters each had prism specs, I never bothered to learn what they did. I totally slapped myself in the head when reading this.

Not that they really need to deal that much damage too often. My Chrono usually just uses the mop nowadays. Haven't played since completing the DS re-release. I totally love this game though (and most SNES rpgs for that matter).
