I'm going to be somewhat frank, here. I love the original Mega Man timeline (meaning the original series, X, Zero, ZX, and Legends). I fell in love with the series because of it. But now, after 23 numerical installments (and a myriad of side games), I think Capcom needs to start thinking of how to tie up all the loose ends and have some sort of a big wrap. I'm thinking of:
1.) A Mega Man 9 that covers the fate of the original cast and provides a nice segue into the X series.
2.) A Mega Man X9 that covers the events of the Elf Wars and the rise of Copy X.
3.) The Zero series can end perfectly where it is, since Zero could possibly be dead.
4.) A Mega Man ZX2 to tie up whatever loose ends might be left (I haven't played much of it), possibly ending in the world-flooding catastrophe that created the Legends series' world.
5.) Since it takes place last (chronologically), I think Mega Man Legends 3 should be the grandest finale of them all, with references to past series galore and (in my fantasy edition) a final confrontation with Dr. Wily. Honestly, if they can resurrect Sigma as many times as they have, they shouldn't find much trouble bringing back the baddie that started it all.
After that, Capcom should focus entirely on the secondary timeline (meaning Battle Network and Star Force). Of course, this plan assumes that Capcom is concerned about showing respect to the story, which we all know it doesn't. I just really think it could work. I mean, they could make it the most expansive marketing campaign in video game history: "The End of Mega Man." Your thoughts?
