I'm currently on a RP forum that's getting some ideas together. Before that, I used to be in a Gundam RP that died eventually (we were like...3 ppl posting on a regular basis, with 4 others posting whenever they could). That was a year ago and I'm hyped up at RPing again on the new forum I joined. Sadly, I fear that it'll die eventually (hosting problems, etc)

Anyway, RPing can be fun if there's not over 10 persons in one RP. Then it just becomes confusing and plain frustrating. I tried getting into the RP here...but I don't really have the time to read what's done so far.

I think one of my biggest pet peeves about forum RP's is that most of the time, the forums are set so that only members can read them. How will you know if it's an RP you want to join if you can't even see how good it is? That's someone I've recently corrected on my own.

Another thing. I've looked at once where the RULES weren't even viewable to the public. How stupid is THAT? ><

Yeah, that's annoying. I once joined a kind of RP about a subject I didn't like because of that, and the rules ALLOWED SPAMming. Talk about stupid. <___<

I actually was going to be part of one that my friend was creating, but he...well lets just say it's up in the air and screwed up right now.

Plus I just don't have fun unless it's not serious in any fashion. The second someone goes "ONOS U DIDN'T BLOCK THAT ATTACK POST NULLED POST NULLED" I lose interest. I just like character driven nonsense..I guess.

Simple fix: Make an every attack has to do some damage rule.

I find it funny that so many people here seem to think of RP as only involving battle. X3 (I'm a bit of a sucker for romance, myself... <_< )

See, that's why I feel that RP should generally be what DnD is meant to be, that is party-based where it's people against NPCs. That is, the RPers versus characters that aren't they player characters, but the antagonists. If you want to fight someone else though, at least come up with some system to gauge the battle.

Anyway, I tried the RP on this board, but I was never able to get my char to be able to be plugged into the story. Didn't matter how much he waved his hands and yelled "Hey! I'm here, notice me! I won't steal the spotlight or anything, just acknowledge that my character is, in fact, in the room." So instead, I sent him and his potential sub-plot to some old friend NPC of his, effectively putting him in RP Limbo.

I don't feel inclined to try again anytime soon.

Meh I believe a good long lasting RP needs a balance. Between battle, peace, and romance. It makes it more interesting. Sure my favorite is fighting for the fun of it, not till death. But still a balance is nice.

Well excuse me for stating the truth. After all, who tends to buy romance novels and the like more? Men or women? Who tends to write the most? Men or women?

It might sound sexist, but it's really not. Girls tend to be more romantic, and more susceptible to the enjoyment of romantic material than guys are. I'm not saying that guys aren't like that too.

Well, real ones aren't.

Trust me, I see men check out romantic novels at library.

Heck. I know a guy who reads Nora Roberts novels. Jeez, "Men don't read romantic novels"?!

Honestly I do chuckle at the thought of my friends who RP participating in a romance driven one. That's just hilarious.

Perhaps you didn't see me say "I'm not saying that guys aren't like that too." I know there are, it's just that the majority is women.

You know, most of the guys that I've RPed with wanted to go overboard on the romance for my taste?

Anyway, I guess to me a good RP is more like a good story. Yeah, I said I'm a sucker for romance, but I'm a sucker for action, too. There's a TON of fighting in the RP's I do, but it's not so much me and my RP buddy trying to beat each other out, but to make a real plot. Drama, angst, action, romance, more angst, some light-hearted stuff, more angst, oh, and did I mention angst?

Yes, I'm very guilty of the angst card.

I guess my point is, what an RP REALLY needs to be good is a plot other than something straight out of DBZ. Some of the RP's I've done could be posted practically as-they-are as a pretty darned decent fic. It just needs to involve two people who are willing to actually think and actually write and stop pretending that they're in a literary fighting game.

Well, most of the time, I'm all for instant messenger RP's... Kinda prefer them over forum RP's. But this one that I run, I'm having quite a bit of fun with, probably due to the fact that Shadowfire's there, lol. It seems like every time I try to join another forum RP, I just don't like the setup. The one I've got is setup a little different than the others I've seen.

I've always been a fan of the flawed protagonist who starts off flawed, immature, obnoxious or an ass, but over the course of the journey overcomes his flaws, matures, calms down and/or softens to the point where he is what could be considered a hero.

The only problem with that, Mega X, is that when that's the case, I usually have the urge to kill the main character before he's even been developed. XDD

I guess I like more "real" characters- ones that act like human beings. You know, they suffer psychological damage from a horrible tragedy, they don't act like a bunch of little kids on a sugar high, they don't take emotions stupidly exaggeratedly overboard, they're actually afraid, rather than charging into battle head on like a video game character...

That's me, though. =P I just like realistic development.

Playing in an RP is like reading and creating a story at the same time. If it's good, it has a bit of everything, romance, action, humour, etcetera, and is original.
