Just a little question that popped into my head- something I asked someone else, actually, and then thought, "sounds like a good message board topic." So, what is it? Or do you watch them? What do you prefer to see most in a horror movie?

My favorites are Silent Hill, The Ring and The Ring 2, and Gothica. I tend to go for horror movies that have more plot, and more mystery, rather than just slasher films. I never particularly find horror movies "scary," which is probably why I like to have more plot than just flat-out scary stuff.

On the other hand, what's the crappiest you ever saw, and why did you hate it? I hated Hostel because I felt like it was just half porno, half gross-out and they didn't do nearly as much with the story as they could have. In short, it was boring and kinda nasty.

Silent Hill is definatly up there. It certainly was the best game based movie to date and I did have to pause it at one point to calm down a bit. However I do kinda wish they added more monsters and fights with them. Like the big tube guy from SH3 and have to deal with them. The nurse part was good though.

But my favorite by far, even if it really isn't horror, is Dog Soliders. I'm sure alot would disagree but this movie really has a place in my heart. I fear werewolves the most, thus I love thier movies. I like parts of movies where a group of guys are stuck in a house fending off monsters, that was almost the whole movie. I liked it alot...I really did.

I'm not a fan of slashers normally, though. I just get a bit too jumpy from them because of the fact its human killing humans. I got it from my mom apparently, but there are some I can stand. Like the 'Halloween' moives and the most recently seen, 'Wrong Turn'. Wrong Turn wasn't all that good, but it entertained me, as I just want to see people die in gruesome ways sometimes and Wrong Turn gave me that.

So yeah...go from there.

Horror movies of any sort don't bother me. I'll eat breakfast while watching a homicidal maniac disembowel his victim with a spork and later use their intestines as pants suspenders.

The Thing, that was a really good, under-rated alien movie. The effects are deserving of mucho praise. I mean, a guy's stomach opens up, grows teeth, and chomps off a doctor's arms as he attempts to give the very same guy CPR.

I've always liked slasher films, whether it be the Halloween series, the Friday The 13th series, or the newer Saw series. Nothing says lovin' like chainsaws!

And then the weird ass, psychological screw-up movies like The Audition, where you're left thinking "WTF, mate?".

OH! And zombies! Anything with zombies is deemed awesome!

Horror movies makes me uncomfortable.

Though, the first movie: Scream was actually pretty okay. (It didn't really scare me all that much...)

But in general, I'm really not a fan.

Crappiest would be any of the movies that deals with scaring you visually and I end up having nightmares shortly afterwards because I keep hallucinating things that aren't there.

The Alien and Predator series, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silent Hill, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Manhunter, Psycho, the original Halloween, The Shining, Rebecca, anything by Alfred Hitchcock, really... I also quite like Chucky and all his "adventures". House of Wax was alright, I mean I got to see Paris Hilton impaled through the forehead..but it's certainly not a favorite. These are in order by remembrance of course.

I want to see Audition quite badly, and even want to see crap like Hostel. As in, I'm sure it's crap but..might as well.

I like most horror I see, but out of rampant fanboyism I will put Red Dragon on my most hated list. The casting was awful and ruined the movie. Edward Norton as a gritty, half-psychotic cop and Ralph Fiennes as a serial killer..it was laughable. The Hills Have Eyes, the 2006 one, was pretty boring as well..

I don't really concider them horror, more sci-fi thriller. Still both the of the series were awesome. I prefered the Alien ones more and I liked Aliens the best. I also enjoyed the cameo appearance of an alein the Predator 2, be it just a skull. However Alien vs Predator could have been better...the Aliens beat the Predators way too easily.

Alien vs. Predator was good... but dang, the book for it (totally different story, though) rocked out loud...

But yeah, I guess I didn't really think of them as horror... Well, I guess they could be called survival/horror. Eh, who cares about genre? lol. They were cool that's all that counts. XD

I'll go with none, since I don't like any horror movies (unless some of the movies I watched fell into that category while I didn't know it...). I'm not a fan of heavy gore or pointless killing.

What surprised me a few times are movies that I expected to be sci-fi, while they turned out to be about horror more than anything else. Event Horizon and that awful Ghosts of Mars come to mind. I don't lose any sleep over them, but I could do without seeing them.

I like zombies, though. Zombies are funny. :hehe:

The head writer was trying to find a way to leave the movie open for sequels so he came up with the "pred-alien" idea while taking a crap, obviously.

Actually, the pred-alien thing was preconceived before the movie came out- it originated with one of the games. And heck, I think it could make for a fun idea. I like weird crap. ...'Course, I liked the movie, too... <_<

The Predator Alien was conceived by Dark Horse in one of their comics oh-so long ago. And it's not THAT farfetched, Aliens take on the attributes of whatever they pop out of..hence the "Dog Alien" in 3.

An Alien with dreds is pretty ludicrous though.

Because it's obvious to anyone who's played the games that Megaman has no reason to kill than to satisfy his sick urges.
...

I like a lot of the Horror stuff I've watched, although it's mostly older stuff (Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Chucky, occasional black-and-white). I watch some of the Sci-Fi hosted ones and the like for kicks sometimes. XD

I know, I'll just be the first time in a movie. I have a game where it is featured. Alien vs Predator: Extinction. Its an RTS rather than a FPS like the other games.

Not to mention that mouth thing that the predators have. I hope it can also evolve like in the game I mentioned. They grow spikes on thier backs, higher the 'level' the larger and more the spikes. Up to eight I think.

Also a Reaver would be awesome to see.

Okay, so Friday the 13th to me is like watching what happens at a meat processing plant, The only real horror I like in the Hannibal Lecter movies... Minus Red Dragon, The first Manhunter, and Hannibal Rising...

Especially Hannibal Rising, gee, thanks for taking a pscychologically(totally no spelled right) deep character and giving him the usual, "My sister got eaten by Nazis" sob story. Add atrocious acting and you win Dranzer's most hated horror movie next to the Saw series and Friday The 13th: Jason takes Manhattan...

Silent Hill, Nightmare on Elm Street (the first one) and the Evil Dead Series would have to be my favorites. I think that Freddy was a really good concept for a killer in terms of being able to kill you in your dreams and what not. It's a shame that the series didn't turn out they way that it should have.

Evil Dead to me, was actually funny. Both films were good in there own little way. Evil Dead 3 AKA Army of Darkness had some fun times too.

Aside from that, good classic horror movies are usually the most fun to watch. I could care less about horror movies over the recent years.

Well, the book was mediocre, so it was obvious the movie would be as well.

People complained about it alot, but they don't understand Hannibal was "innocent" until the end of said book, in a way..so I'm sure the movie is "boring" in this same fashion.

Were there any sex scenes, Dranzer? Because if there were, I think I'm going to be violently ill.

I dunno. Most horror films are utter crap on account of the endless "suspense" and the predictable inevitable, and the whole trying to scare you thing. It just seems so cheap.

I suppose if a film wasn't horror in this respect, but it was the messages and the undertones that managed to terrify me, that might be better, but so far they don't exist.

Saying that, though, if you're looking for a comedy, Dawn of the dead and A Nightmare on Elm Street are pretty funny.
