The password isn't as uncommon as I thought it was, because in Ecco the Dolphin (for the Sega Genesis), there are similar password mysteries.

I wouldn't doubt that these "useless" passwords were for programmers to record cutscenes or demos.

Odd...

It didn't work on the rom I found (which must have been the later version)

On my actual cart, it gave me the bad password sound, but did exactly what you said. Gonna try watching the demo now...

Edit: Wow, it worked. Four subtanks, all weapons, but no upgrades. I know of a Game Genie code that did the weapons at the beginning, but the subtanks are new. And one has ONE BAR full. Rom still doesn't do anything, but I noticed it said Nintendo instead of Capcom, so it must be the rereleased version.

Try using the storm tornado on the giant bees, heh... If you have a Game Genie, the jump codes work for that.

I guess the proper term is "reissue." Majesco published the game in the mid 90s, after the initial run in the early 90s. It was in some old issue of Nintendo power where they threw in some strategy to honor the reissue.

This can be similar to any glitch in any game, just think of Pokèmon, for example, most of the "Missingno" pokèmon were actually spaces from Pokémon that had been reserved for another game, and only two were a literal game mess-up. Some of them were actually put in there by the original game designer and Mew was the one he managed to "sneak through" Nintendo's vetos, which is actually the REASON it was only obtainable through events before someone discovered the (real) New glitch. So this is probably something similar, where one of the numbers just triggers something in the programming that was "leftover". I wouldn't say a new or PC game is immune to this either, at all - most websites have tons and tons of extraneous code hence the W3 and extremely slow loading times of even the rare websites that don't use massive amounts of annoying scripts.
