It's Nickolodeon's answer to Cartoon Network's airing of Naruto. I think it's a Naruto knockoff.

Actually, it's not a Naruto knock off because:

1) different plot (Save the world from the stupid Fire Nation, for one!)
2) Smaller cast (srly)
3) There is NO MAGICAL FOX DEMON.

What the hell? Naruto knock off? It's obvious that you haven't seen Avatar.

And yeeeeeeah, I like Naruto as well, but it really annoys me when some uneducated person decides to declare a show a knock-off of another series without having actually seen it.

I certainly hope the fans of the two groups on this site don't get into a popularity war between Avatar and Naruto. Or this topic is gonna die really quick.

I am not quick to call something a knock-off unless the similarities are really really clear. I've heard other people call other series knock-offs, for instance, with the animated series Shuriken School being a knock-off of Naruto. I can see more similarities between those two than Avatar and Naruto, but still, I don't think it's a knock-off. I mean, I have never seen anyone breathe fireballs the size of a house in Shuriken School, in what little episodes I've seen of it.

Also, there are numerous series involving all the elemental stuff and demons and such. If you really want to get technical, I could just go ahead and call half of the anime series of today knock-offs of Dragonball and Pokémon.

I'm kinda with Morph on this one, about not calling things knockoffs without clear proof of it. I've seen one or two episodes of Naruto, and I wasn't impressed, but I won't judge Avatar until I see it. I've heard from some good (Naruto-hating, lol) friends that Avatar is a good show. If they were really so alike, I'd imagine they wouldn't like either one. ^^;

I've only seen about 10 seconds of a single Naruto show, and it was enough to keep me well away from it. But, I don't even know the time listings for Avatar, and really don't care to find out, but like Ri, I'd have to watch it before I decide which is better.

I don't know the time listing for Avatar either, so I've been borrowing the dvds from library (my work place). XP

Seriously, I do watch both Avatar and Naruto. I can safely say that they have *nothing* in common at all. NOTHING.

My main issue is with people who tend to be too quick to call things knock-offs without having actually seen the shows in question and compared them.

If Avatar's a knockoff of anything, it's Miyazaki's movies. You can tell they were an "inspiration". I don't see how Naruto factors into the whole thing at all, ahahaha.
