So I saw the midnight show of Spider-Man 3 tonight. I feel the movie was quite fun and rather entertaining, but at the same time was rather messy. The action was superb, but many scenes in which were supposed to be serious just seemed silly to me. I didn't really have high expectations so I can't say I'm disappointed, but I think it was easily the worst of the three. Too much going on and the three villains seem wasted to me. But to say it wasn't an entertaining movie would be an outright lie.

I also found it annoying how anytime a masked character got a good closeup, whatever covered their face would just disappear. Lame. Nothing major but still, lame.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
There were some things that tickled me that I felt were rather inappropriate. Peter happily telling Aunt May that Spider-Man killed Flint Marko had me laughing my ass off. It just seemed so.. inappropriate. Sure, the symbiote was changing Peter and making him more aggressive, but it seemed like it completely altered his moral compass as well. I don't think he was even wearing the black suit either, during that scene. But I might be wrong. ;o

The dance scenes were somewhat inappropriate for the movie but I enjoyed them immensely.

The movie retained the same sense of humour that the first two did, which I found refreshing because I was expecting it to tread into darker territory. Overall I actually think the third was funnier than the first two, though some of it detracted from the movie.

I felt the scenes with Flint Marko killing Uncle Ben that Peter imagine just seemed cheesy.

I liked Sandman but there wasn't nearly enough of him. Venom was a complete waste. I did not enjoy seeing Harry take Peter's side at the end, and felt it was a waste of the development done with him in the first two movies. However, the wink after he told Peter he was the other guy was absolutely priceless. I think all three villains would have worked seperately and it would have been alot better if Raimi stuck to the formula of the first two movies and just kept one per movie. They just felt wasted.

All I can think of at the moment.

To those that have seen it, your thoughts? ;o

Well, as far as the movie goes..

Spoiler (click to toggle)
A meteor that contains the an alien life form that is symbiotic just happens to convieniently land near where Peter and Mary Jane are stargazing. The symbiote goes home with Peter, and attaches itself to his Spider-Man costume when he is having nightmares about Uncle Ben's death, changing the color of his suit to black in the process.

I really wanted to see Venom threaten people with a trash can. Or steal a car and honk endlessly at Spider-Man to annoy him. Venom was amazingly well done, just needs a little *more* time. XP
Peter's mortal compass really went 180 degrees then just snapped in half with that dance number. I was like "ohgod" because that was seriously unexpected.

Well, I just got back from it, and I really liked it, despite some of the things mentioned in the spoiler tags... And I don't necessarily agree with all the complaints. I enjoyed it every bit as much as the other two, and really don't have many complaints with it at all... Other than the typical weak plot devices most super hero movies have.

I also just got home from it. Wow, Great effects, HORRIBLE acting by everyone but Kirsten dunst.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Now for the in depth part...
Okay first the jazz club crap... The symbiote suit can't stand noise that well right, then why the hell is he standing up there with A LIVE BAND!? Shouldn't that have melted the symbiote?!

Next about emo spidey... WEll i'll be blunt, that little hair down stuff was actually hilarious. Especially the scenes with him walking down the street and messing around. Including the Jameson office scene.

Sandman was overplayed and shouldn't have even really showed up at the end. As for Venom he wasn't hulky enough, he has to have muscle, he was almost SMALLER than Spider...

James Franco is a terrible actor and i'm convinced the only reason they hired him to play Harry was because he looks like Willem Dafoe (Norman Osborn). I was actually CHEERING when he was impaled; I even found the irony that he was stabbed with his own glider, like his father was, Funny.

Spidey was decent, but he was much better played in the 2nd one. Tobey played the emo greaser part well, but the nerd part of him always shines through to me in these films.

Now for Kirsten Dunst... Well what's there to say, she acted well with the exception of her fake crying (which no one in Hollywood seems to do right anymore).

Overall i'll give it a solid B, not bad enough for a B-, bunot enough for the B+...

First of all, props to making Venom's teeth look right. And the eyes. I was worried as all get out that they would get that wrong. As for the movie itself...well, I've grown up a Spiderman freak, so I can't say that I didn't love it. :P

Also;

Spoiler (click to toggle)
The symbiote wouldn't have freaked out during the jazz scene, it only reacts to extremely high pitched noises. The bell has more frequencies than what it was putting off, you know, and the same goes for the pipes. High frequencies and all that. I doubt a trumpet or a piano could do that at a loud enough level to actually piss it off.

I give it an awesome out of yay. :3

Reality swirled in a wholly blue manner, revealing absolutely nothing of merit. Things flashed madly in and out of existence like some entirely other sort of phenomena. On a whim, Kurt Vonnegut imploded, taking a sizeable hunk of Massachusetts with him. However, seeing as Massachusetts wasn't entirely sure it existed, the chunk wasn't all that big.

First off I'm gonna say it's the best of the three. *ducks away*

I'll share why later.

I really enjoyed the movie. I saw it at 10:40 on Friday.

My opinion, of course, is biased because Venom is my second-favorite character in the series, behind Spiderman.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
My only issues were that Venom wasn't quite bulky enough, though I am more than willing to let that one go. My big issue is that he said "I". Not "we", he said "I".

Alright, my "why, HighMax, why are you so screwed-up in your head?" post:

I honestly loved SM3. From the amazing computer graphics in the opener to

Spoiler (click to toggle)
that last pumpkin bomb,
Spider-Man 3 had me up and wide awake for its duration from 12:00-2:30AM last Thursday night/Friday morning.

The opening was nice, and to see that they got the symbiotes in so early was a nice thing for me - this was the first movie I've seen in a very long time that didn't overdo the introduction (yes, I'm referring to you, Disney). Then, Sandman (observed to be the first villain to have an actual superpower other than strength - a nice one, too) was brought in with a rather odd scene for a supervillain - he flees jail to see his dying daughter, his wife shoos him away, and he makes a run for it, landing in a particle gahoozeywatzitdooey, which gives him his power. That was a nice shift. Then Harry's tension is brought to the breaking point as he fights Peter early on. Now, for the good stuff:

Spoiler (click to toggle)
I loved the times in the black suit - shows you just how stupid those "goth" types who walk around in black clothing really look - sorry if you happen to be one of them - maybe this is your... um... calling.

And another couple of things that made me smile:
"You want forgiveness? Find religion."
And, where does Peter go to find peace? A church. Where does Eddie go (although for bad reasons)? The same church. What is the first sign of symbiote weakness? Church bells. Has there been a connection between all these movies and religion? I guess I'll make a new thread for this sometime. I just like that - I'm a Christian and proud of it.

JJJ also was at the top of is game:
"THAT'S NOT THE POSITION I HIRED YOU FOR!"

Venom. Venom, Venom, Venom. I actually liked his slight downsizing - made him look a bit more natural, not over-souped-up, as in that you could tell that Eddie Brock was under there. I also agree with the amount of screen time he got - not enough to make him drag, not little enough to just waste him - honest, the GG did drag out in SM1. And he was done awesomely. The way he could peel away his face and how he caused the irony in Harry's death was real cool.

But most of all, I liked Sandman - a guy who wanted only to save his daughter - sure, he'd steal, but he didn't want to hurt anyone.
"I'm not asking you to forgive me - I'm just asking you to understand."
Then, of course, the movie's most powerful line:
"I forgive you."

Awesome movie. My favorite villain was Venom, my favorite background plot Sandman's and my favorite movie in the series - this one by a very small margin. Plus the main villain wasn't a super-badguy - it was a tempter along with the freely made choices of the characters.

I've had my rant.

For all those who haven't seen it, do so, it's amazing, but you'll need to see #1 first.

If goths acted anywhere near like Peter did when he had the black suit under his clothes they'd be pretty damn cool. To the max. Seriously, his behaviour was flat out hilarious.

I find it abit amusing that quite abit of Venom fans were happy with his appearance in the movie when it was almost a complete waste. Venom always seems to be a victim of his popularity but his fans generally seem to be happy with whatever they get. Whatever.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Oh well, the waste of Venom isn't really as bad as Sandman just flying off after Peter forgave him.

Which reminds me, does anyone find it unsettling that every villain in the series seems to discover that Peter Parker is Spider-Man?

Someone wrote this on another forum I go to, and I think it sums up Spiderman 3 pretty well.

WARNING! LANGUAGE MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME VIEWERS!

Spoiler (click to toggle)
The joke, which Macguire gets and plays to perfection, is that Peter Parker is incapable of really being evil because he’s such a nerd. It’s an expansion on a theme briefly looked at in Superman III, when Superman becomes “evil.” The thing, Superman can’t really be evil, because he’s so god damned lame. He just doesn’t know how to be cruel. All he can think of is to fly around melting people’s tires and straightening the Leaning Tower of Pisa. He’s trying to be evil, but he’s really just being a dick.

Macguire gets the joke, and runs with it like a champ. Evil Peter Parker’s Scarface-esque strut through New York is nothing short of inspired. He runs around with an emo haircut, leering at women, doing the finger-shooting thing no less than a hundred times; the sort of s---- that only an unredeemable nerd would think is cool. Even when he’s trying to torture Kirsten Dunst, now his ex, instead of screwing Ron Howard’s daughter in Dunst’s bed, he breaks into a mini-production of Chicago. F------ hilarious.

I went and saw it on my birthday (May 8th). Honestly, I think it was without a shadow of a doubt the very best of the three :)

Spoiler (click to toggle)
Yes, the deal with Sandman being Ben's killer was a little messed up, but it made for a good plot.

The new Goblin was simply awesome. The snowboard/glider thing that Harry uses was so kool. Really, all of Harry's items/weapons were the bomb :)
Venom came in just a little too late in my opinion, but the time he was in there was freaking great :D Sure, they did tamper with his appearance, but that was to be expected. Remarkably, they managed to make him look bigger than Spidey, which really surprised me considering who was playing Eddie.

Spoiler (click to toggle)
The only big problems I had with SpiderMan 3 were: the way the "black suit" looked. The original version was way better, no contest. The fact that Spidey still shot his webbing the same way instead of it coming from the top of his hand, and that Venom didn't even use web. However, the thing that bugged me more than any of those other things was that Venom called himself I, me, etc. instead of we like he's suppose to. I was waiting for his famous line ever since Brock got the symbiot: "We are Venom!" It's such a freaking awesome line, and they didn't even use it! Shame on them! The worst thing in the whole movie, and I think everyone will agree with me on this, was the death of Eddie Brock :( *sniff*

BTW, of friend of mine, who works at the theatre, says that they're making 4-6, and that Carnage is said to be in SpiderMan 4 :D

I doubt that.

The two actors and the director is really sick of the spider-man movies right now... so sequels are right out.

Heck, the actress who plays MJ said that she wouldn't be back unless the director was.

So, I guess that's it for Spider-Man.

Actually a friend of mine did online research - sources say that the Lizard and Carnage are in for Spider-Man 4 - in fact, the entire reason Doctor Connors was in any of the flicks was to build up to the Lizard, planned for SM3, but moved back to SM4. Makes sense, too - the only symbiote left is in Connor's lab.

Ahh, is it not wonderful?

I finished the Wii game for the movie a few days ago - if you don't have a Wii, SM3 is just like 2 with new missions andupgrade system. Still free-roaming, which rocks, and the Wii remote makes swinging flippin' awesome!

Spidey and Harry vs Venom and Sandman
was a good idea. But the way
Spoiler (click to toggle)
Venom died
was lame. He got 30 min screen time, most. Wasted. He just wasn't Venom to me. He looked like Venom, but wasn't Venom in personality. Brock seemed in control, but if I remember correctly, the symbiote was mostly in control.

Because of that, Sandman is my favorite villian of the movie. He was just cool to me. He knew how to use his powers, had some great lines, and he had a cool personality.

Harry was cool too. I liked the second fight scene between Harry and Spidey. That had a nice ending and showed how Spidey could be evil.

Also Emo/Nerd/Pimp/Punk Peter was hilarious. It was supposed to be, I'm sure. He looked emo, but damned if he acted it.

So yeah, cool, but Venom needed his own movie with Spidey.

Yeah, the casting for Ven was pretty bad too. I think Raimi purposely flubbed it because he likes the oldschool villains, personally I can't blame him in the least. Marvel were the ones that hounded him to do it since people buy anything dealing with Venom.
