I'm afraid I'm not hugely knowledgeable about fish, but the betas I've had have survived perfectly fine in room-temperature water, or perhaps a little higher. I'm not sure, though, if the specific breed you got is the same as what I kept. I think your best bet would be to try to find a website describing specifics, or ask your local pet store- Mine's always been really good about telling me what I need to know about fish, when I kept them.
I'm not sure if this would help, but I found this on them: http://animal.discovery.com/guides/fish/freshwater/crownbeta.html

I hope you got the fish from a store that partially knows about pets, otherwise the poor sucker's gonna be belly up in a few days no matter how well you treat him.
But read up regardless!

The ideal temperature for tropical fish is between 78 and 80 degrees, and should float for apprx. 30 mins.
So, have we been any use to you? Or, are the little blighters still alive?
