Okay, so we have Glacierman's poemon center for this kind of telk..except, well...that's more of a general discussion on the games. This topic is a place for people to talk about the competitive side of pokemon: Breeding, EV's, Movesets, and IV's. PLEASE know what these are before posting. >__>

So, as the first post, allow me to post GameFAQs most sinister moveset: FEAR.

Rattata@Focus Sash

Endeavor
Quick Attack

level 1.

Yeah, lol. Now watch: On the first turn, you pick Endeavor, since you'll be going second because your level 1 and your speed sucks. >__> Okay, so opponent attacks you, and Focus Sash leaves you with one HP. Endeavor takes it's course, and leaves your opponent with 1 HP as well. Use Quick Attack since it always go's first. <3

I made a hacker CRY over the DS using this. I AM SERIOUS.

But I don't play with any cheatin' pokemon's. And before anyone goes OMFG IT'S NOT CHEATING...well to me it's cheating, and of course that's all that matters on my end. Course I'm not even one to do all that Pokemon breeding stuff either..

I read an interesting topic on GameFAQs about the awesome destructive power of Wobbuffet. (Which hadn't previously dawned on me)

Wobbuffet's moveset is

Destiny Bond
Mirror Coat
Counter
Encore

He also has a high HP. If you're at the same level as an enemy Wobbuffet and you don't have a type advantage, chances are you won't knock him out in one shot. This particular strategy that I read was to equip Wobbuffet with leftovers, and use Encore first move. Whatever move the opponent uses, they're going to involuntarily use again next turn.

So what you do is find out what move they're going to repeat, and choose Counter or Mirror Coat accordingly. Leftovers recovers health each turn, keeping him with relatively high HP while you can continually use Encore and then the corresponding move that reflects that attack back.

And if things go badly, like, dark type, then Destiny Bond.

Come to think of it that was probably the original intention for how Wobbuffet should be used. I feel stupid for not realizing it before. -_-;

Okay, so let's discuss T-Tar for a moment here. As you probably know, SandStorm gives rock and ground type moves a 1.5 boost now. This means TTar has more or less moved into the Uber Tier for competitive battling, which is actualy pretty sad, since he was my A-Star on my OU team. :/

Silver, Gold, and Crystal were the best Poke'mon games of their time. The Johto anime was awful after it's first season.... >_<

I still say the Johto starters are the best there have been. Totodile was awesome, so was cyndaquil. It's just that Chikorita sucked 'til it evolved... The best one starter has been Mudkip, but the best team is Johto...

Well, as far as competitive battling goes, I've begun building a non-legendary EV-trained team.

Right now I have a Garchomp with the following EV distribution:
252ATK, 100SPD, 100SP.DEF, 58HP
The moveset I'm planning is:
Dragon Claw/Rush
Earthquake
Fire Fang
Crunch

I'm breeding now for a Male Adamant Ralts (for Gallade, obviously), and I'm planning on finishing off with Dusknoir, Electivire, Aggron, and Magmortar.

My questions are:

For Garchomp:
Dragon Rush or Dragon Claw?
Should I have maxed ATK and SPD, and given HP 4 EVs?

Gallade:
Do I want Adamant or Jolly nature?

Dusknoir:
Do I want a Phys. or Special Sweeper from him?

Aggron:
Should I max both Defenses for him and give HP the leftovers?

Electivire:
Phys. or Special sweeper?

Magmortar:
Who's got a spare Magmarizer?

Oh, and on the note of Johto: That came and passed long before my interest in Pokémon reignited. I have to say some of it was good, thw starters were good, save Chikorita, but not too much cme from that gen that really impressed me - save Umbreon.

Oh, and I'll add Ralts to my great, grand trade-off.

And I'm sure I'm breeding for a Male Adamant Ralts now that, thanks to Serebii, I see that Gallade's Sp.Atk fails and its Spd is mediocre. But kudos to its Atk and Sp.Def!

I was thinking of letting Garchomp use surf and get rid of one of your moves, but I have no idea on your stats, and how you balanced physical and special stats, although the base stats greatly lean toward a physical attacker.

Your Garchomp EV spread is flawed; the trick to effective EV spreads is to enhance strengths, not cover weaknesses, except in expressedly unique situations. He should have a 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 6 HP spread, which is standard. Garchomp does not run crunch-- it's Swords Dance you want. Dragon Claw over Rush.

Next thing to pick at-- Dusknoir isn't a sweeper. Yes, he got enough attack to scare things off with his new evolution, but he can't sweep to save his life due to his laughable speed. Dusknoir is meant to -wall-.

Aggron has no place in a OU competitive team. He can't tank to save his life, due to his pitiful number of 4x weaknesses. Next.

Electivire is a Physical Sweeper, meant for excellent type coverage in standard sets.

As far as Magmortar goes, I'm not sure about his metagame potential, nor what you hope to achieve with him.

Leading Weavile takes out half your team easily, and T-tar decimates your Pokeymans. You lack a Special Wall. You don't have a utility. I'd try getting a Stealth Rocker and Spinner into here, too.

Post movesets.

Sidenote: Tyranitar is -not- uber tier TJ.

This metagame, it's still being debated. With Sandstorm running a 1.5 strength increase for ground type attacks, all T-Tar needs is a good STAB for it to be considered in the Uber Category.

Also, Blissey is still the best Special Wall, correct? Either that or Cresselia now.

Sandstorm doesn't give a 1.5 boost to ground type attacks lad. It's a 1.5 boost to special defense stat for rock types. Chalk up on this stuff. :P

T-tar's always been a metagame threat, but he's probably not as feared as CSMence in my opinion. T-tar actually has conceivable counters, where the bulk of Ubers would completely affect the metagame if allowed. By the same methodology, CSMence could be deemed uber because almost nothing can safely switch in on him save for Blissey/Empoleon. As you see, when you deem T-tar uber, you start getting the questions about what else qualifies for the tier.

Blissey is still the standard Special Wall for lamers. Cresselia works smashingly too, though.

So I'll breed a new Gible and redo the EVs correctly, get a male Adamant Ralts, work on a replacement for Dusknoir or just make it a wall, ditch Aggron, Phys. EV-boost Electivire and just try out Magmortar and keep replacements in mind, correct?

Please say you didn't just utter the word "Empolion" in a competitive thread...PLEASE.

And how is Blissey a wall for Lamers, if you mind me asking? It's more or less the standard. I used to use a Curselax, before it got severly downgraded in DP. >__>
