While this new setup makes it impossible to connect using your favorite IRC client, there are some upsides too. One of the major points is that the user accounts are now linked with the message board data: everyone who happens to be a member there will automatically be able to enter the chatroom merely by entering their username and password! This makes it easier to identify people and avoid impersonation problems. The data integration also works in the other way, since the online users in the chatroom are now displayed on the message board's front page in the "Who's Online" block. That gives you a chance to know that people are already in there, so you can join in whenever you want.

Additionally, temporary extra rooms can be created by anyone for special purposes: discussion centered around a special theme, role play sessions, or anything else suiting you.
